It seems like just yesterday that tabloids and gossip sites alike were run rampant with rumors that American Idol sweetheart, Kelly Clarkson, was a secret lesbian (which would make sense, as all her songs about relationships with men were pretty negative). However, this past weekend Clarkson proved all of us wrong by actually marrying a guy!
When the rumors that Kelly Clarkson was gay first hit the media, I totally bought into it. Not because she seemed like a lesbian all that much, but more so because unlike her country counter parts (Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood) her love life had never been much for tabloid fodder. When a celebrity doesn’t whore out their personal relationships I either assume a) they’re gay, or b) they’re into some really weird shit.
I guess that neither was true of Clarkson (or so she’d like us to believe). On Sunday, Oct. 20, Clarkson wed talent manager, Brandon Blackstock, who also happens to be the son of Clarkson’s country BFF, Reba McEntire (McEntire sadly couldn’t attend the wedding.
Apparently she had an out of town concert to attend, but I’m hoping she was filming another season of “Reba“…I can dream). Clarkson and Blackstock began dating in early 2012 after knowing each other for six years and got engaged in December.
Personally, I have some really mixed feelings about Kelly Clarkson getting married. On one hand, good for her! After years of singing about being dumped, cheated on, hurt, and overly treated like crap (all of which I assume really happened to her because no one sings songs that aren’t based on real life events), I’m glad that Kelly has found someone to make her happy and actually maybe appreciate her love of Reba McEntire.
But on the other hand, with Adele happily engaged and and a new mother and Clarkson married, who is going to write all those sad power ballads about the woes of love and heartbreak? Will Adele and Kelly’s happiness destroy the heartbreak music industry?! Taylor Swift is really going to have to up her game now that these two have paired off. I suggest that Taylor date Kelly’s alleged ex and fellow America Idol alum, Justin Guarini. Being dumped by a 2001 American Idol reject would make for a fantastic album!
