Cory Monteith cremated amidst family drama

Cory Monteith’s body was cremated Tuesday in Vancouver following a private viewing with his family and girlfriend Lea Michele, TMZ has learned — but Cory’s father wasn’t invited … and he’s heartbroken. Cory’s dad Joe Monteith — who is divorced from Cory’s mom Ann — tellsTMZ … he was informed of the cremation after the fact, adding he’s “totally devastated” he didn’t get a chance to see Cory’s body. We’re told Cory’s body was released yesterday to his mom, and she decided to hold a viewing at the hospital with Lea and Cory’s brother Shaun. Following the viewing, we’re told Cory’s mom decided to have him cremated. Cory’s dad tells us, “I always loved both my sons and am going to miss Cory very very much. I’m saddened at the fact that I couldn’t have been there to see my son before he was cremated.” SOURCE

Cory Monteith Cause Of Death Confirmed By Toxicology Report As Lethal Mix Of Heroin, Alcohol

The British Columbia Coroners Service revealed Tuesday that Monteith died of a mixed-drug toxicity involving heroin and alcohol. The investigation into his death is continuing and no other details are available at this time.

In the report, the British Columbia Coroners Service adds, "It should be noted that at this point there is no evidence to suggest Mr. Monteith's death was anything other than a most-tragic accident."
It was previously reported the toxicology results could take several days. However, the results were expedited because of the extreme public interest in the case, according to E! News.
The "Glee" star was found dead in a hotel room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in downtown Vancouver on July 13 after failing to meet checkout time. Hotel staff called paramedics, who later declared him dead on the scene. He was just 31 years old.
After the tragic news was announced, members of his Fox family expressed their condolences. A rep for his on-screen and off-screen love, Lea Michele, asked for privacy during this "devastating" time. Other "Glee" co-stars mourned the loss, as well: Matthew Morrison performed a show in honor of the late actor, and Naya Rivera said he "always will be a part of my own family."
On Monday, Monteith's cousin, Richard, spoke with Canada's Global News about the star's passing.
"Please don’t judge on what is gonna be coming out,” he said. “Glass half full. All the good things that he’s done. There’s more things on that side to focus on.”
“Because he is such a high profile guy, you know it is not going to end there," he added. "There is going to be ridicule about — he has done this or that — and I just hope people know it is not about that. … His life was full of beautiful stories, triumphs, failures and successes that it does not matter what his problems were. … It matters how many lives he changed and that he was genuine.”
The "Glee" actor voluntarily entered rehab for the second time in March to make steps toward recovery. He previously discussed battling substance abuse in his teens, telling Parade magazine in a 2011 interview he had a "serious [drug] problem."

These are some of the last photos ever taken of Cory Monteith -- snapped just days before he was found dead in a hotel room -- while the "Glee" Star was hanging with friends and drinking alcohol. 

Sources tell TMZ ... the pics were taken on July 6th, the same day Cory checked-in to the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in Vancouver ... where he was found dead one week later. 

In the pics, Cory and a few buds are seen hanging out at The Shop -- a local coffee house and clothing store for people who love motorcycles. 

We spoke to the owner, who tells us, Cory came in ... was extremely friendly and really interested in choppers ... even sitting on the owner's bike. 

We're told he and his friends chilled for awhile -- laughing and drinking beers. One source on sight said Cory knocked back 3 cold ones over the course of a few hours -- despite his recent stint in rehab -- but didn't seem out of control or wasted. He was perfectly nice.  

Cory's not physically seen drinking in the pics ... but the Lea Michele doppelganger he's standing next to -- who we're told is just a friend -- is seen clutching two beer cans. Possibly because cameras were around ... and Cory has been open about his substance abuse issues. 

As TMZ previously reported ... Fairmont hotel staff found Cory dead in his hotel room Saturday, after spending Friday night out with friends. He was 31.

SAG Awards Winners 2013: Screen Actors Guild Honors Best In Film & Television

Each year, the SAG Awards honor the best actors on film and television, and the 2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony was no different.

Daniel Day-Lewis, Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence were among the movie stars nominated at the 19th annual SAG Awards. Once again, however, it was Ben Affleck who stole the show.

Affleck's "Argo" took home the Outstanding Ensemble in a Motion Picture, upsetting "Lincoln" and "Silver Linings Playbook" to win the award. Following the film's victory at the Producers Guild of America Awards on Saturday night, "Argo" is in prime position to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards on Feb. 24, this despite Affleck being snubbed in the Best Director category.

Lawrence solidified her status as Best Actress front-runner by grabbing the Outstanding Female Actor in a Leading Role for her performance in "Silver Linings Playbook"; Day-Lewis, also favored at the Oscars, won Outstanding Male Actor in a Leading Role for "Lincoln."

Tommy Lee Jones won the first award of the night. The actor, who wasn't at the ceremony, captured Outstanding Male Actor in a Supporting Role for "Lincoln." Anne Hathaway won the Outstanding Female Actor in a Supporting Role trophy for "Les Miserables." Accepting her award, Hathaway joked that she was happy to have dental insurance.

On the television side, Alec Baldwin won Outstanding Male Actor in a Lead Role for "30 Rock"; Tina Fey won the Outstanding Female Actor in a Lead Role for the same series. "Amy, I've known you since you were pregnant with Lena Dunham," Fey joked during her acceptance to friend and fellow nominee Amy Poehler.

Despite those wins, "30 Rock" lost to "Modern Family" for Outstanding Ensemble in a Comedy Series. "Modern Family" star Jesse Tyler Ferguson thanked the casts of "30 Rock" and "The Office" for inspiration and general awesomeness, as both shows are going off the air after this season.

Julianne Moore won Outstanding Female Actor in a TV Movie or Miniseries for playing Sarah Palin in "Game Change." Kevin Costner was awarded with the Outstanding Male Actor in a TV Movie or Miniseries for "Hatfields and McCoys." Costner wasn't at the SAG Awards ceremony.

After a flurry of early awards, Baldwin came back out on stage to announce Dick Van Dyke's Screen Actors Guild lifetime achievement award.

Bryan Cranston kicked off the second half of the SAG Awards by winning Outstanding Male Actor in a Drama Series for "Breaking Bad." He thanked his family, his cast and AMC.

Claire Danes won the Outstanding Female Actor in a Drama Series for "Homeland."

"Downton Abbey" was an upset victor in the Outstanding Ensemble in a Drama Series, defeating "Mad Men," "Breaking Bad," "Homeland" and "Boardwalk Empire" for the honor.

The 2013 SAG Awards results could help clear up the very murky Oscar race. From previous HuffPost Entertainment coverage of the SAG Awards, via The Associated Press:

Honors from the actors union, next weekend's Directors Guild of America Awards and Saturday night's Producers Guild of America Awards – whose top honor went to "Argo" – typically help to establish clear favorites for the Oscars.

But Oscar night on Feb. 24 looks more uncertain this time after some top directing prospects, including Ben Affleck for "Argo" and Kathryn Bigelow for "Zero Dark Thirty," missed out on nominations. Both films were nominated for best picture, but a movie rarely wins the top Oscar if its director is not also in the running.

Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" would seem the Oscar favorite with 12 nominations. Yet "Argo" and Affleck were surprise best-drama and director winners at the Golden Globes, and then there's Saturday's Producers Guild win for "Argo," leaving the Oscar race looking like anybody's guess.

The Screen Actors Guild honors at least should help to establish solid front-runners for the stars. All four of the guild's individual acting winners often go on to receive the same prizes at the Academy Awards.

Last year, "The Help" won Outstanding Ensemble in a Motion Picture, while Viola Davis, Jean Dujardin, Octavia Spencer and Christopher Plummer won the respective acting awards; all but Davis won on Oscar night (she lost to Meryl Streep for Best Actress).

Chord Overstreet: Ain't Over with 'Glee'

All that summer drama for nothing; Sam is coming back to McKinley High.

When it was announced that Chord Overstreet would, who joined "Glee" in season two, would not be made a regular cast member at the outset of the third season of "Glee," the star decided that he'd rather not continue on in the show. Scrambling to keep fans happy, the producers quickly offered him a chance to feature in the show as a recurring character and get bumped up to regular around mid-season. No dice, Overstreet said; he was moving on to other things.

Now, TVLine reports that Overstreet is in talks to return to the show, with a first appearance tentatively earmarked for the eighth episode of the season. How, exactly, they'll explain his return -- Sam, it was revealed, moved away after his dad got a job in a new city -- remains to be seen, though "Glee" has certainly done zanier things than changed a character's zipcode.

What still remains to be seen, though, is what exactly creator Ryan Murphy and co. will do with Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer, all of whom are seniors on the show this year. That's been the subject of a lot of speculation, public statements and retractions, and one might imagine the show will use the unanswered question as a story line for the entire season.

“Glee” Faves Aren’t Leaving Show After All

Okay, so it’s official: Nobody making Glee has any idea what they’re doing. Contrary to the persistent rumors circulating the Interwebs, Glee stars Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, and Chris Colfer will not be leaving the Emmy-winning show after they graduate next season.

Well, color us confused.

Just weeks after Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy confirmed (repeatedly) that Lea, Cory, and Chris — otherwise known as Rachel, Finn, and Kurt — would be leaving the show at the end of its third season, executive producer Brad Falchuk has revealed that that’s actually not the case at all.

“Here’s the exact thing: They’re seniors. They’re graduating. But that doesn’t mean they’re leaving the show,” Brad told fans at Comic-Con in San Diego on Sunday. “It was never our intention or plan to let these people go … They are not done with the show after this season.”

Lea? Check. Chris? Phew. Cory? And breathe. But what about Chord?

“[Chord] decided he would have opportunities elsewhere that he would like to pursue,” Brad revealed. “We can’t force him to work.”

Gleeks, rejoice. It looks like your faves will be hanging out at McKinley High a little longer. There’s been discussion about a spinoff show following Finn, Rachel and Kurt in New York, but it doesn’t look like that’s happening. So, as of right now, they’re staying put.

Lea Michele, Cory Monteith And Chris Colfer Definitely Out For ‘Glee’ Season 4

Sure, we already knew Ryan Murphy was planning on getting rid of most if not all of the cast after the next season of Glee, but it’s even more official: The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Lea Michele, Cory Monteigh and Chris Colfer — who won a Golden Globe for his performance of Kurt — won’t appear in Season 4 at all. Murphy adds “more characters are leaving than are staying,” so it’ll be interesting who of the kids gets to stay. (Our money is on Darren Criss.) As for this trio’s post-Glee career plans, we’re mostly worried for Cory. Is it too late for him to get cast in that Hunger Games franchise or something?
