Chris Brown, Drake -- Screw Rihanna and Friendship ... Let's Make Money!!!

EXCLUSIVE
0711-drake-and-chris-brown-eskimos-FUN-ART-02
The curious new friendship between Chris Brown and Drake has NOTHING to do with Rihanna or brotherly love ... we've learned it's a cold, business decision about making millions.

Chris and Drake -- whose posses literally destroyed W.i.P. nightclub
in NYC in 2012 over a Rihanna beef -- have decided they can actually
make more money together than separately ... this according to sources
working closely with the 2 performers.

They're now in the studio
... laying tracks down for Chris' new album.  We're told Drake will
perform with Chris on some of the songs and he'll also be the producer.

There's
a bonus for Chris -- by working with Drake he'll be able to continue
being affiliated with Young Money and that keeps the door open to
collaborations with Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj.  As a matter of fact, we know Tyga -- also part of Y.M. -- was in the studio with Drake and Chris on Thursday.

Two other reasons Chris and Drake think working together will sell more albums:

--
People will pick the lyrics apart, trying to figure out if they are
talking about Rihanna ... the woman who they both slept with and the
catalyst for the W.i.P. brawl.

-- Everyone wants to hear who sounds better -- Chris or Drake.

Chris Brown's Plea Deal Falls Through, May Face More Jail Time

chris-brown-pool-court-460.jpg
Pool photo

Chris Brown may not enjoy being in jail, but it seems as though he
was unable to reach a plea deal with prosecutors because of his own
pride!

Brown was arrested last October outside of the W hotel in Washington
D.C. and charged with misdemeanor assault for reportedly hitting a fan
who was trying to take a picture of him. At the time of the alleged
altercation, Brown was on probation for his 2009 assault on
then-girlfriend Rihanna.

Apparently neither side could agree on what Brown would acknowledge
happened last year. Prosecutor Kevin Chambers said Brown was offered a
deal to plead guilty to simple assault and time served in the Washington
case, but the troubled R&B star's lawyer Mark Geragos said after
the hearing, "They wanted him to read from a script that wasn't true."

Brown was released from jail earlier this month after serving 108
days behind bars, and he still has to complete around 800 hours of
court-mandated community service.

Brown's trial is scheduled for September 8.

Rihanna Gets Paid More For Attending A Fashion Show Than You Probably Make In One Year

You can hardly call the relationship between celebrities and endorsements news. When Michelle Obama or Kate Middleton so much as step out in a certain dress, it's sold out within minutes. And even though studies suggest that people don't actually care about endorsements, that doesn't stop companies from going to great lengths to secure their relationships with the rich and famous.

So, it's not a surprise that the same rules apply to things like Fashion Week, too. The Sun (and consequently The Telegraph) reported Wednesday that stars like Rihanna
are paid £60,000 (about $100,000) by designers EVERY TIME they sit in
their front row. That is, of course, more than one person even needs to
live for a full year. And when you consider how many shows Ri
goes to over the course of a given fashion week, as well as the other
celebrities that brands are shelling out money to for appearances (we're
looking at you, Miu Miu) well, the numbers are pretty shocking.

But is it worth the hefty price tag? Does seeing an "It" girl roll around the Chanel show in a shopping cart
make you want to buy Chanel any more than you did before? Maybe -- for
those who can afford to be buying Chanel in the first place. RIRI

The
benefit for designers, naturally, comes from these celebs being
associated with their brand. And in a society where photos rule the
social media scene and you can follow your favorite stars' every move
from your smartphone, it makes sense for labels to want them in their
front row.

And OK, maybe we're a little jealous. After all, if we
were offered seats in the front row at some of the biggest fashion
shows of the year AND getting paid for it, we'd go to a whole bunch of
shows, too.

Mariah Carey's Journey to a New Album: The Billboard Cover Story

Mariah Carey is having a Case of the Mondays.

Mariah Carey
It's the day after Easter, and she's nursing a kick to the face from
her nearly 3-year-old son Moroccan after a long day of egg hunting. "We
were sort of winding down the day, removing his shoes, and he was having
his own moment of not wanting the night to end and he ended up getting
me square in the nose while the shoe was still on," says Carey, 44, on
the phone from her apart- ment in New York. Though her nose has a "tiny
bump" that Carey has been treating with ice and milk, the incident has
still apparently swollen her face enough that she has had to cancel a
planned photo shoot and in-person sitdown with Billboard. "I think it's
OK. It's still really red. I could've covered it up and tried to look
decent, but shouldn't my "Billboard" cover be a little less about that
and more about the music?" (The cover photo is an outtake from her album
shoot.)

If you've followed the headlines around Carey in the years since
2009's "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel," you would know it hasn't always
been about the music. Since the birth of her twins Moroccan and Monroe
in April 2011, she has weathered a rocky stint as a judge on American
Idol in 2013, for which she was paid $18 million, according to People,
as well as an accident on a music video set that led to a dislocated
shoulder and cracked ribs. The injury preceded the latest in a series of
delays for her planned 14th album, which at one point was earmarked for
early 2013. Though her Miguel duet "#Beautiful" was a decent-sized hit
last summer, peaking at No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 with sales of
1.2 million (according to Nielsen SoundScan), a trio of other singles
failed to catch fire, most recently February's "You're Mine (Eternal),"
which spent a week on the Hot 100 at No. 88 and has sold only 56,000
copies.

No 'Beyonce' Strategy For Mariah Carey's New Album

But in late May, Carey hopes she can silence her naysayers and
super-serve her patient fans with the much-anticipated release of her
14th album, which at one point was intended as a digital-first,
all-at-once release a la "Beyoncé." Though her label Def Jam now says an official pre-order is expected for later this week,
announcing the album's title, cover and tracklist, it's clear from
talking to Carey that she misses the good old days of the '90s. The time
when you could deliver an album the old-fashioned way, when you had to
go to the store to see the song names and the cover art. "I have to be
the one that announces this, especially the title," says Carey, noting
the album takes its name from a "personal possession of mine that's part
of an entity that I've had almost all my life."

The "Beyoncé" parallels would have made even more sense when you
consider that Beyonce was coming off an underperforming album (2011's
"4") before going the surprise route, much like Carey's "Memoirs"
produced just one top 10 hit ("Obsessed") and sold a disappointing
549,000 copies, low enough to cancel a planned remix album.

Carey will cop to a few of the prerelease singles not doing
particularly well, pausing to note that 2013's Stargate-produced "Almost
Home" was intended for the "Oz, Great and Powerful" soundtrack. "It was
never about, 'This is my album,' but I wasn't fully connected to that
song. I was in the middle of that other situation in my life, which we
will erase and pretend it never happened." (That "situation" being Idol,
which we'll get to later.) "You would think I would be all about the
singles-driven situation, and I am in a way, but with this particular
album I want my fans to hear it as a body of work," she says. "This is
my life since we last left off. Just picture a dot dot dot, and then
here's the album."

"Life happens, and that added to the making of this album,"
songwriter-producer Bryan-Michael Cox told "Billboard" in February.
"Over the past couple years we've added songs, scratched songs,
slow-baking this record like a honey-baked ham. And when you take a bite
of that ham — people will be extremely and pleasantly surprised."

Carey's label group Island Def Jam is probably best described as
cautiously optimistic about the album, declining to respond to multiple
fact-checking and interview requests for this story.

In terms of fans, anticipation for a new Carey album hasn't been this
high since her mid-2000s comeback, which saw 2005's "The Emancipation
of Mimi" go quadruple-platinum and turn "We Belong Together" into the
biggest radio hit of her career, spending 14 weeks atop the Hot 100 and
becoming Billboard's top song of the 2000s. But in addition to the
reteaming with Jermaine Dupri ("We Belong Together," "Always Be My
Baby") on two tracks for the new album, she has assembled a team of
collaborators that shows she has paid attention to the hip-hop and
R&B charts in recent years. There's tracks from of-the-moment
producers like Hit-Boy (Kanye West and Jay Z's "N***** In Paris") and
Mike Will Made It (Rihanna's "Pour It Up"); guest features from Wale,
Nas and Trey Songz; and even c ontributions from veeran arranger Larry
Gold and the Love Unlimited Orchestra and a "special guest that I'm not
allowed to reveal."

Talk to Carey about the album, and you'll get lengthy if cryptically
worded explanations about the material, making liberal use of favorite
words like "journey" ("If I use that word one more time I'll have to
start an '80s rock band"), "festive" (her time on Idol, she says, "was
not festive") and "moment" ("I just need a moment to finish this track
listing"). She'll call you "dahhhling," with a Zsa Zsa Gabor
affectation, and grill you on your "lambily" status (that's Mariah speak
for hardcore fans, or "lambs"). "There's no way I'll be able to quite
relive the splendor of certain moments — name that tune, lambily!" she
says at one point, asking if you've spotted her lyrical reference to
"The Roof " from 1997's "Butterfly."

7 Things From Mariah's Classic 'Fantasy' Video that She Should Do Today

As Carey began work in earnest on the project in 2012, a friend
compiled an exhaustive, 1,000- track playlist of all of Carey's catalog
and remixes, dubbed "The Ultimate MC Audio Collection." Through
revisiting her own 24-year career, Carey reminisced about forgotten
remixes from the '90s with producers like the late David Cole and her
early experiments with genre-fusing. "I will always lean toward R&B
in general, but I do think that merging hip-hop and R&B was one of
the best things that happened for me as a fan of music. There's this
whole pop and hip-hop mixing together thing now — first of all, it's not
new, and second of all, why are we acting like it is?"

The album will also showcase Carey's intro-spective, "morose" side,
which certain lambily have treasured through the years from deeply
personal cuts like "Looking In" (from 1995's "Daydream"), "Close My
Eyes" (from "Butterfly") and

"Petals" (from 1999's "Rainbow") — songs that offer an intimate
glimpse into the person behind all the diva behavior. "It's so good to
hear people say they grew up with me as the soundtrack to their life,
even though I was making it, so that was the soundtrack to my life as
well," she says.

It was Carey's reconnection with "Looking In" that shaped the final
phase of the current album. She performed the song live for the first
time with the New York Philharmonic in Central Park last July, just one
week after her shoulder injury, clad in a faux-fur sling that matched
her white ballgown. The song's lyrics were inspired by her unhappy
marriage from 1993 to 1998 to Tommy Mottola, and found her singing in
the third person about a girl who "dreams of all/ That she can never
be/She wades in insecu- rity, yeah/And she hides herself inside of me."
Carey broke down in tears at one point during the song, cautioning the
audience beforehand that it "requires a bit more stability than I have
right now. I kind of got in trouble for writing this song so I'm going
to try."

After the show, Carey revisited the songs she had already earmarked
for the ballad-heavy album and decided she needed a change of pace.
That's where two of the three Hit-Boy tracks came in, as well as a fresh
collab with Dupri, who became her latest manager thereafter. (Carey's
management underwent several changes in 2012 and 2013, including parting
ways with former Idol co-star Randy Jackson after many years together
and a brief stint with Coran Capshaw's Red Light Management.) "There
were certain parts of the album where I needed to be lifted up again. I
needed something uplifting." (That's a "Dreamlover" reference, lambily.)

That Carey is taking even more of a hands-on approach to her music
these days is no surprise from a woman who co-wrote all her No. 1
singles, and has also taken more aspects of her career in her own hands
amid her various management shifts and other endeavors. After being
"bamboozled" by the Idol experience when footage of her feud with fellow
judge Nicki Minaj leaked, for example, Carey says she would like to
executive-produce her next reality-competition venture. "I have another
project that I'm so very excited about that's finally coming to
fruition. I would want to do something that was authentic. And I did
feel that there were some truly talented singers on there this year,
last year, whenever that was. It's a blur, it has all been a blur, all
of it, dahhhling."

BILLBOARD: GET THIS ISSUE | SUBSCRIBE | GET THE iPAD APP

But she's also in a rarefied class of superstars in their third
decade of fame who can still compete in the big leagues. Madonna, Cher
and Celine Dion continue to rank among Billboard's top-earning artists
more for their exhaustive touring work, not because they're still
getting the massive radio play and album sales of their respective
heydays. Carey, meanwhile, has never been much of a roadhorse (she
didn't even tour until 1993, when she played 10 theaters in support of
her third album, "Music Box") and still considers herself more of "a
studio rat" at heart.

"I love being in the studio, making Wall of Sound background vocals.
That's when I'm most at home, other than being with 'dem babies' now. I
love being onstage and connecting with the lambily most importantly, but
it's just that now nothing's just an experience with your fans and your
fans alone. It's on YouTube immediately, not 'Oh, that was an amazing
moment I just experienced.'" So until she's willing to do a global arena
tour or a Las Vegas residency, Carey will need to keep churning out
hits to extend her living legacy.

Dupri seems weary of the expectations that come with official
"comeback singles," which is why one of his first items of business as
Carey's manager last fall was releasing the ballad "The Art of Letting
Go" as a teaser track on Carey's Facebook page to set the tone for the
album, rather than the typical event strategy. Though "Letting Go" will
appear on the album along with "#Beautiful" and "You're Mine," the hope
is that the fans' response will democratize the typical album process
from here.

"The challenge with Mariah has always been if I like one record and
she likes another, you can never pick a single that satisfies
everybody," says Dupri. "If you just did what Beyonce did, she just gave
you 17 singles and you picked which record you like."

Even though Carey's latest album marks the longest gap between
albums, it certainly won't be her last, despite a recent interview with
Bravo's Andy Cohen on "Watch What Happens Live" where she indicated she
might be treating it as such. Still, it signifies something of a make-
or-break moment at this phase in her storied career as Billboard's
second-most-decorated Hot 100 chart-topper, next to The Beatles.

"I will always make music. When I said [this album] could be my last,
that's because tomorrow's not promised to anyone. When I release
anything, it's difficult — it could be a performance that you don't love
and it's like, 'Great, everybody's going to pick this apart,' and
that's it. What I'm trying to say is I wanted this to be something I
could be proud of, whether it's like, 'Yay, No. 1 song!,' and this and
that. However things end up happening, we've all worked so hard. The
true lambily have all worked so hard to break all these Billboard
records and to have this incredible experience with me that I want them
to have this almost as a gift."

Beyonce may be raunchier than ever - but you don't have to watch her

This is how she rolls

Beyonce is the latest songstress coming under fire for being too sexy in her European tour.

Well my advice is, if you don't like it, don't go. And certainly don't take your kids.

Her steamy pre-watershed Grammy performance with
hubby Jay-Z in January prompted thousands of complaints from parents in
the US who felt their kids shouldn't be subjected to what was basically
foreplay at 8pm on live TV.

Admittedly her routine wouldn't have
looked out of place at any local pole dancing club, and why any woman
would want to wear a thong and gyrate suggestively with her husband in
front of millions of people is beyond me.

But that Grammy performance should have rung alarm bells for any parents who had tickets to Beyonce's tour.

Beyonce Reveals Sexy Swimwear Look For H&M
Beyonce has gone all sexy on us

If she is willing to do that on live telly in front of the world,
imagine what she will be like in the relative privacy of an arena with
just 20,000 people there?

And Queen Bey
isn't the first and she certainly won't be the last pop star to get her
kit off and writhe around a bit to sell a few records. Madonna, Janet
Jackson, Britney Spears, Christine Aguilera and Rihanna have all been at
it for years.

When you go and see one of their shows, you pretty much know it is going to be raunchy. So you make your choice.

What
parents can't get away from though are the lyrics in the songs played
on the radio that our kids sing along to in the car everyday.

“I'm
up all night to Get Lucky”, “You know you want it”, “Sticks and stones
may break my bones but chains and whips excite me”, they sing along
oblivious to what those words mean as I cringe quietly in the driver's
seat.

I was 11 when Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Relax was banned by the BBC because of the overtly sexual nature of the lyrics.

If they took that stance now the radio would be practically silent.

But what does make me angry is when pop that is marketed purely at kids often oversteps the mark.

When
my daughters are singing along in the car to The Vamps “I talk a lot of
s**t when I'm drinking, I'm known to go a little too fast”, while One
Direction's Live While We're Young tells them “Don't let those pictures
leave your phone”, it makes me feel that the music industry, not my
kids, needs to grow up.

Chris Brown Assault Trial: U.S. Marshals to Transport Shackled Star to D.C.?!

When (if) Chris Brown stands trial in Washington, D.C. for assault in mid-April, he will do so as a prisoner accompanied by U.S. Marshals, TMZ is reporting.
T H U G
Brown is in jail in L.A. for violating his probation. His probation for assaulting Rihanna was revoked after he was charged with assaulting some guy in D.C.
He originally stayed out of jail by seeking anger management treatment, but once he was kicked out of rehab for the second time, off to jail he went.
His trial begins April 17, unless he's able to buy his way out of jail by convincing the accuser to drop the case. If convicted, he faces YEARS in prison.
Assuming that doesn't happen, the judge in the D.C. assault case has signed an order commanding the L.A. County Jail to release Chris to the U.S. Marshals.
The judge who remanded him into custody in the Rihanna case ordered Chris to stay behind bars until the D.C. trial, but never said how he would get there.
It looks like we have our answer. CON AIR!
Of course, the Rihanna case judge could release the R&B star on his own recognizance, or the case could get dropped any minute. So stay tuned.
For now, the 24-year-old remains a caged animal, being harassed by fellow inmates for being a wannabe rapper and little b!tch who beats on women.
Their words, not ours, people.

Is the Beyonce Approach Working for Other 'Surprise' Albums?

Is the Beyonce Approach Working for Other 'Surprise' Albums?
Beyonce
Robin Harper

First came Beyonce, then Kid Cudi, Skrillex and Wolfmother. "I think the surprise release is a one-trick pony," a major-label distribution exec says. "I am not sure it will work again"

Since midnight December 13, 2013, "pulling a Beyonce" has become shorthand for the music industry's favorite new marketing tactic — issuing a "surprise" album with little or no prior fanfare. But has the strategy paid off for those who've tried their own spin on the stealth approach?
The results thus far have varied, but the trend is likely here to stay. "This is going to happen, you know it and I know it," a senior major-label distribution executive tells Billboard. "By June, at least two more big artist will release an album without fanfare, just like Beyonce. I don't know who that will be, but it will happen."
Kid Cudi's "Satellite Flight: The Journey to Mother Moon," released surreptitiously at midnight on iTunes February 25, was the first major test of the Beyonce approach, with a well-known artist releasing new music without the aid of an advance single or promo campaign. Though the album moved an impressive 87,000 copies in its first week (enough to secure a No. 4 debut on the Billboard 200), it was nevertheless the rapper's smallest debut sales week for a solo project – trailing 2013's "Indicud" (136,000), 2010's "Man On The Moon II" (169,000) and 2009's "Man On The Moon" (104,000), according to Nielsen SoundScan.
And just last week, Skrillex became the latest entrant with "Recess," his first proper full-length album, which hit digital retailers one week after a surprise streaming preview on March 11. In Skrillex's case, the approach paid off in terms of sheer numbers – "Recess" was handily his best debut week, following 2012's "Bangarang" EP (24,000 copies) and his pair of "Monsters and Sprites" EPs.
Whether "Recess" can eventually top the 595,000 copies "Bangarang" has sold to date, or "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites"' 638,000 collective haul, remains to be seen. After all, the sheer jolt of surprised press and fans helped "Beyonce" outsell the singer's previous album "4" in just four weeks - a feat that other artists will struggle to top based on the lack of novelty.
"I think the surprise release is a one-trick pony," says the distribution executive. "I am not sure it will work again." Adds another sales executive, "I wonder when this is done frequently, does the surprise factor wane? If there are a lot of releases promoted this way, it will become less impactful. If mid-level and lower-level artists pile in, will the surprise get applied to the point where the public doesn't care anymore?"
One could argue that fatigue could already be working against Australian rockers Wolfmother, who quietly released an album, "New Crown," on Tuesday to a fraction of the press Beyonce, Skrillex and even Cudi received. Granted, Wolfmother has been off the scene since 2009's "Cosmic Egg, which sold 28,000 copies in its first week (126,000 to date) and hasn't had a hit album since 2006's self-titled set (597,000 copies to date). But the album's out-of-the-blue launch is likely just as due to frontman Andrew Stockdale's desire to part ways with the Wolfmother name, having told Billboard in April 2013, "For the last three years I've performed as Wolfmother, and I don't feel comfortable about it…Chris Ross, who played bass and keys in the first line-up when we started, he came up with that band name. That name was for me, Chris and (drummer) Myles Heskett. It became Wolfmother. Because of the success of the name, there was pressure then to call yourself Wolfmother. But it felt weird."
With the summer-release season around the corner, rumors are already swirling that everyone from Lana Del Rey to Lil Wayne to an un-named superstar with a"Beyonce"-like visual album could all be next in line.
Senior executives suggest that one-week surprise exclusives via streaming, a la Skrillex, could be a more viable model for other artists to try out, and require less make-goods to important accounts at retail, streaming services like Spotify, Beats and Vevo and influential radio programming directors in the long run. Irish folk-soul singer Hozier seems to be testing out this approach this week, having quietly released his second EP "From Eden" exclusively on Spotify this Tuesday. It's seemingly no coincidence, however, that Hozier is distributed by Columbia – home to Beyonce as well as David Bowie and Daft Punk, each of whom experimented with furtive release strategies through the label in 2013.
After all, by releasing "Beyonce" exclusively via iTunes in its first week of release, Beyonce made important frenemies out of Target and Amazon, and shoe-horned a visit to a Walmart in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, into her touring schedule on December 20 (an appearance where the singer handed out $37,500 in "free" gift cards, paid for by Sony.) Radio was also less than pleased by the Beyonce blitzkrieg, pushing back at Columbia's plans to release album track "Blow" to Top 40 for its racy lyrics, proposing Ryan Tedder ballad "XO" in its place over the album's release weekend.
So who's really the next Beyonce? A major-label president, who has not yet been involved in a surprise release,  says, "This kind of event is the territory for maybe 10 artists in the world," the executive says, suggesting Rihanna, Eminem, Adele, Jay Z, P!nk and Justin Timberlake as a few examples of the artists in that elite camp. "It was a bold move that in many ways was a necessity. It's a credit to her being CEO of her brand, and having years of sold-out touring and a huge amount of anticipation built in for this album."/ Billboard

Chris Brown -- I Can Get Out of Jail ... For the Right Price

0318-chris-brown-0
It sure seemed Chris Brown was checkmated -- sitting in jail as the clock ticks for his D.C. assault trial that could trigger a probation violation in the Rihannacase that could land him in prison for 4 years .... but TMZ has learned his lawyer has found a way out of the hole ... by paying LOTS OF MONEY.

Sources connected with the D.C. assault case tell TMZ ... Chris' lawyer, Mark Geragos, has contacted the lawyer for the man who claims Chris assaulted him in D.C., breaking his nose, and offered him a BIG FAT CHECK.

We're told Geragos is gunning for a civil settlement ... which could very well mean the broken nose guy would tell prosecutors he no longer has an interest in pursuing the criminal case.  And our sources say prosecutors are aware of the civil settlement negotiations.

We're told Geragos may have already sealed the deal but if not ... it should be done in a day or 2.

So here's the likely resolution.  The alleged victim gets a ton of money (our educated guess is several hundred thousand dollars), D.C. prosecutors drop the criminal assault case and the Rihanna judge then lets Chris out of jail either late this week or early next.

March 16, 1996: Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men's 'One Sweet Day' Makes History On Hot 100

'Sweet' 16, indeed: On this date 18 years ago, the superstar duet ballad wrapped its record 16-week stay atop the chart

March 16, 1996: Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men's 'One Sweet Day' Makes History On Hot 100On this date (March 16) in 1996, Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men's "One
Sweet Day" spent its 16th and final week atop the Billboard Hot 100,
wrapping the longest reign for any title in the chart's history.

The song's success was hardly surprising, given Carey and Boyz II
Men's track records in the '90s. It had already passed the prior-record
14-week commands of two titles: Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love
You" and Boyz II Men's "I'll Make Love to You." (Three songs have since
also led for 14 weeks each, including Carey's "We Belong Together," in
2005.)

Here's a look at the songs that have logged the most time at No. 1 in the Hot 100's 55-year archives:

Weeks at No. 1, Title, Artist, Year Reached No. 1

16, "One Sweet Day," Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men, 1995

14, "I Gotta Feeling," the Black Eyed Peas, 2009

14, "We Belong Together," Mariah Carey, 2005

14, "Candle in the Wind 1997"/"Something About the Way You Look Tonight," Elton John, 1997

14, "Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix)," Los Del Rio, 1996

14, "I'll Make Love to You," Boyz II Men, 1994

14, "I Will Always Love You," Whitney Houston, 1992

13, "The Boy Is Mine," Brandy & Monica, 1998

13, "End of the Road," Boyz II Men, 1992

12, "Blurred Lines," Robin Thicke feat. T.I. + Pharrell, 2013

12, "Boom Boom Pow," the Black Eyed Peas, 2009

12, "Yeah!," Usher feat. Lil Jon & Ludacris, 2004

12, "Lose Yourself," Eminem, 2002

12, "Smooth," Santana feat. Rob Thomas, 1999

Aided by the record domination of "Sweet," which debuted at No. 1 on
the Dec. 2, 1995, Hot 100, Carey boasts the most total weeks at No. 1
(79) for any artist in the Hot 100's history. The Beatles rank second
with 59, followed by Rihanna (51) and Boyz II Men (50). (Boyz II Men,
meanwhile, are the only act with at least three singles that have each
spent 12 weeks or more at No. 1.)

Carey's 18 Hot 100 No. 1s are the most among soloists and second only to the Beatles' 20.

Carey, currently climbing Adult R&B Songs and Rhythmic Songs with
"You're Mine (Eternal)," the first single from her May 6 studio album,
received a glowing review in the Nov. 4, 1995, Billboard issue for
"Sweet" (the same week that Billboard also praised Madonna's "You'll
See" and Alanis Morissette's "Hand in My Pocket"). "Expect big chart
numbers," Billboard accurately predicted of the ballad, the second
single from Carey's album "Daydream"; lead track "Fantasy" ruled the Hot
100 for eight weeks (before being displaced by "Sweet") and third
single "Always Be My Baby" led for two.

"Its success will be much deserved, as Carey's increasingly mature
and soulful delivery effectively melts into Boyz II Men's wall-to-wall
harmonies, combining to give depth to the song's lyrics, which offer a
heartfelt farewell to friends who have passed."

In addition to the Hot 100, "Sweet" crowned Radio Songs for 13 weeks,
Pop Songs, Adult Contemporary (11 each) and Rhythmic Songs (nine). It
also topped the first Adult Pop Songs chart, which launched the same
week that it completed its unparalleled Hot 100 command.

At the end of the '90s, "Sweet" was honored as the Hot 100's top song of the decade.

Chris Brown -- Jailed After Being Thrown Out of Rehab ... Again

0314-chris-brown-02
Chris Brown
is on his way to jail right now, because he violated a judge's order by
getting booted from the rehab facility where he's been living for
nearly 4 months ... TMZ has learned.

The judge in the Rihanna
beating case ordered Chris to live in the Malibu rehab facility for 90
days to get anger management therapy, and he completed the stint earlier
this month.  BUT ... at the last court hearing, the judge modified
things and ordered Chris to stay in the facility while the Washington
D.C. assault case ran its course.

The deal was this ... if Chris left rehab, he would go directly to jail.

Sources
familiar with the situation tell TMZ ... Brown was thrown out of the
rehab facility this morning, for violating "internal rules."  We do not
know precisely what Chris did, but we're told it did not involve
violence or drugs.

Sources tell TMZ ... Chris was caught having
"an inappropriate relationship" with a female worker at the beginning of
the month, but that is NOT why he was thrown out today.

As you recall, Chris was previously thrown out of a different facility for throwing a rock at his mom's car window.

Chris was picked up by L.A. County Sheriff's deputies this afternoon and is now in jail ...being held with no bail.

“Blow” Is Beyonce’s 19th Dance/Club Play Chart-Topper

While Beyonce‘s “Drunk In Love” has been unavoidable on urban and pop radio, the double entendre-heavy disco anthem “Blow” has been burning up dance floors. Today (March 10) Billboard revealed that the Pharrell/Timbaland-produced toe-tapper has roller-skated all the way to the top of the Dance Club Songs chart.
That’s fairly impressive for a song without a big-name remix package but there’s more. “Blow” becomes Bey’s 19th number one on the chart, making her the equal third (she ties with Janet Jackson) most successful dance artist in history. Only Madonna and Rihanna have racked up more visits to the summit. See the all-time list after the jump.
Artists with the most number ones of the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart:
1. Madonna — 43
2. Rihanna — 21
3. Janet Jackson — 19 (tie)
3. Beyonce — 19 (tie)
5. Donna Summer — 17
6. Mariah Carey — 16
6. Kristine W — 16
8. Jennifer Lopez — 14
9. Whitney Houston — 13 (tie)
9. Lady Gaga — 13 (tie)
9. Katy Perry — 13 (tie)

Kelly Osbourne and Lady Gaga bury the hatchet at Elton John's Oscars viewing party

It's no secret that Kelly Osbourne and Lady Gaga have had a fiery relationship in the
past year, but good news everyone, they buried the hatchet at Elton
John's Oscars party.

Kelly Osbourne and Lady Gaga kiss and make upThe 27-year-old pop singer arrived at Elton John's Oscars party,
and after schmoozing with her pal (and boss), Donatella Versace,
and the legend that is Jane Fonda, she ended up posing for a
picture with her old nemesis, Kelly Osbourne.

A new style: The star made sure all eyes were on her at the prestigious eventHurrah, surely this means that the feud is over!?

A relieved Kelly tweeted: 'Peace at last.'

Other stars in attendance included Britney Spears and boyfriend
David Lucado, Robert De Niro, Ed Sheeran, Chace Crawford, Ryan
Kwanten, Alex Pettyfer, Eric McCormack, Jonathan Groff, Sheryl
Crow, Cheryl Burke, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer, Heidi Klum and
Ashley Greene.

On 11 January 2013, we wrote...

Sharon Osbourne has written a letter of
support for her daughter Kelly Osbourne, after Lady Gaga responded to Kelly's claims she'd
been bullied by the singer's fans.

After Kelly revealed she had received death threats and was
bullied via social media, Lady Gaga wrote that though she had
"empathy" for Kelly and "felt badly that [her] feelings were
hurt", she thought the show that Kelly works on, Fashion Police,
"breeds negativity" and urged the presenter to "to take
responsibility and accountability for the example that you are
setting for young people".

Sharon Osbourne responded to Lady Gaga's letter with one of her
own on her official Facebook page. She said that Lady Gaga's
response would have been more "diginitfied" had it been given in
private and said the letter was "hypocritical and full of
contradictions".

She added that: "A word from you would stop all the hideous,
negative and vile threats from your "little monsters." Let me know
if you want to continue this debate."

And as your mother Cynthia supports you, I support my daughter
Kelly. I must say your opinions on what is politically correct and
acceptable totally differ from mine, but that is what makes the
world so interesting… we are all different.

See the letter in full below…

Ms. Gaga,

I am responding to your open letter to my daughter Kelly, and I am
perplexed as to why you would go public with an open
letter.

Regarding this current situation; Kelly didn't contact you, I was
the one that contacted your manager today and the email is attached
below for your reference. I reached out to him as Kelly's manager
and mother to ask him if you could address your "little monster"
fans and stop them from writing libelous, slanderous and vile
comments about my family, including death threats to
Kelly.

Your open letter is hypocritical and full of contradictions. And
as your mother Cynthia supports you, I support my daughter Kelly. I
must say your opinions on what is politically correct and
acceptable totally differ from mine, but that is what makes the
world so interesting… we are all different.

How sweet that you have empathy for my daughter, as you feel that
she has taken a less passionate path in life. You say her work on
E! with the Fashion Police is "rooted in criticism, judgment, and
rating people's beauty against one another". Welcome to the real
world. Example, when I saw you wear a dress made out of raw meat, I
was sickened. When I see you wearing fur, and using it as a fashion
statement, the fact that defenseless animals have been killed so
you can get your picture in the press is abhorrent to me. Shouldn't
you be teaching your "little monster" fans to respect animals and
life?

I don't feel I have to justify Kelly's choices in life to you. By
your actions to Kelly right now, you have shown me that you are
nothing more than a publicly (sic) seeking hypocrite and an
attention seeker. You know it would have been much more dignified
of you to do this privately. I am calling you a bully because you
have 32 million followers hanging on your every word and you are
criticising Kelly in your open letter. Are you so desperate that
you needed to make this public?

You state, "Everyday, through my music and public voice I choose
to be positive and work towards a kinder and braver world with our
community of followers." Well this obviously is not translating
well to your fans, as a large portion of them have not only been
vile to Kelly, but also other celebrities such as Madonna, Adele
and Rihanna. You say "a kinder, braver world". I don't know what
world you live in, but supporting disgraceful fan comments doesn't
fall under the words "kinder and braver". It comes under the
heading of bulls**t.

In closing, stop wearing fur, stop looking for publicity, and stop
using your fans to belittle not just Kelly but an endless stream of
celebrities. A word from you would stop all the hideous, negative
and vile threats from your "little monsters". Let me know if you
want to continue this debate. I'm an open playing field for you my
darling.

Sincerely,

Sharon Osbourne

Chris Brown -- Anger Triggered by Bipolar Disorder

0228_chris_brown_court_tmz2
Chris Brown has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, severe insomnia and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ... and that's why he has had such anger issues ... this according to new court docs.

Chris was in court today for a progress hearing in the Rihanna beating case.  Documents were filed by the facility where Chris just completed 90 days of anger management therapy. In fact, Chris stayed longer, just completing 95 days.

In the legal docs -- obtained by TMZ -- an official from the rehab facility wrote that ... in addition to his diagnosis ... Chris was self-medicating inappropriately.

The
facility writes, "Mr. Brown became aggressive and acted out physically
due to his untreated mental health disorder, severe sleep deprivation,
inappropriate self-medicating and untreated PTSD." They never explain the cause of the PTSD. The letter also says Chris was diagnosed with Bipolar II.

The letter says Chris is on meds for the bipolar and other conditions.

Chris
has learned various relaxation exercises, according to the letter, and
he's tested negative for drugs, including weed, during his stay.

The facility says he's doing really well.
It says he gets up at 5 AM and works hard.  They say he's been
especially good with community service, saying, "Mr. Brown's attitude
has been beyond exemplary in regard to his community service
responsibilities.
