Seriously though, Angelina Jolie is having the worst week ever. What hasn’t gone wrong for her? Unbroken was shut out of the Golden Globes and SAG Awards. The Globes didn’t even throw her a pity-nomination for Maleficent. And Angelina is all over (in a bad way) the emails hacked from Sony. She found out that her moviemaking partner Scott Rudin thinks she a “minimally talented spoiled brat” with a “rampaging spoiled ego.” And now this… Angelina is going to be MIA for the next week (probably longer) and completely absent from Unbroken’s American PR push because… Angelina has chicken pox.
Think of it this way… after ten long years, Jennifer Aniston’s voodoo
dolls are finally paying off. There is literally a POX on the
Jolie-Pitt house. And in case you’re wondering how an American adult of
39 years could have gone through life without getting chicken pox…
first of all, it can happen. Lots of people get the pox when they’re
adults. Second of all, some people DO get it a second time. It’s not
unheard of. My guess is that all of the Jolie-Pitt kids have it. Maybe
Brad will get it too.
Maybe this is some good news? Angelina probably gave the pox to Amy
Pascal on Wednesday night, just after Angelina found out about the
leaked emails calling her a spoiled brat. This photo made the rounds
yesterday (I linked to it in several posts, but here’s a tweet-embed):
This has been called the “death stare.” I’m not sure if I would go
that far, but it’s definitely not a happy look from Jolie. But she’s
allowing Pascal to supplicate. That’s the first step.
I’m kind of hoping that Angelina goes dark for a few weeks,
recovering from her pox and plotting her next move. Angelina hasn’t had
to recover from such high-profile disrespect in a while, so she might
be rusty. But she will plot her next move and I’m hoping it will be
amazing.
Meanwhile, here’s the full video of THR’s “directors’ roundtable.” Angelina Jolie with Christopher Nolan, Mike Leigh, Richard Linklater, Bennett Miller and Morten Tyldum,
LOS ANGELES — So much for the Golden Globes' reputation for celebrity-chasing.
The Hollywood Foreign Press announced its nominees
on Thursday, a group that for once favored prestige over popularity —
at least on the film side — including five nominations for Oscar
frontrunner Boyhood and a leading seven nods for Birdman.
Angelina Jolie's Unbroken, meanwhile, went off the script;
if the WWII epic was going to pick up awards traction anywhere, it was
here, with the star-obsessed HFPA. But it was shut out, following suit with the Screen Actors Guild on Wednesday.
Additional Drama Best Picture nominees included Foxcatcher, The Imitation Game, Selma and The Theory of Everything, all of which are fairly conventional choices, particularly by the HFPA's well-documented cukoo-for-celebrities standards.
Though it was nominated on the comedy/musical side, Birdman re-asserted itself as an Oscar heavy-hitter, edging out Boyhood in total nominations again Thursday after nipping it 4-3 with SAG. But in both cases, this was due to Birdman's
strong ensemble cast; Michael Keaton was a slam dunk for lead acting,
while Emma Stone and Edward Norton were each nominated for supporting
Golden Globe and SAG awards.
The HFPA did nothing to weaken Boyhood's standing as the
Oscar Best Picture frontrunner, however, granting Richard Linklater's
12-years-in-the-making family saga nominations for Best Picture (drama),
Best Director, Best Screenplay and supporting nods for Patricia
Arquette and Ethan Hawke. Right behind it with four nominations each
were The Theory of Everything, Selma, The Grand Budapest Hotel and Gone Girl.
While the drama category held little in the way of surprises,
the Golden Globes' ponderous musical/comedy category continued its tradition of producing a few head-scratchers
the Golden Globes' ponderous musical/comedy category
continued its tradition of producing a few head-scratchers, including a
Best Picture nomination for the well-received but lightweightSt. Vincent starring Bill Murray, and a Best Actress nod for Quvenzhane Wallis, star of Sony's just-leakedAnnie (by way of Beasts of the Southern Wild).
Other comedy Best Picture nominees included Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel, the Disney musical Into the Woods and CBS Films' Pride.
Robert Duvall may have just snuck into the Oscar conversation, too — though The Judge
was politely received by critics at best, Duvall's brooding performance
opposite Robert Downey Jr. was nominated for a supporting/drama Golden
Globe a day after his SAG peers also gave him the nod. Besides Hawke and
Norton, he'll be competing against Mark Ruffalo (Foxcatcher) and J.K. Simmons, the presumed Oscar frontrunner for his blistering performance as a music director in Whiplash.
Jennifer Aniston in "Cake."Jennifer Aniston also added a Golden Globe nomination to her SAG nom for Cake, putting her squarely in an up-for-grabs Best Actress category that includes Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), Julianne Moore (Still Alice), Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) and Reese Witherspoon (Wild).
On the actors' side for drama, the nominees included Steve Carell (Foxcatcher), Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game), Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler), David Oyelowo (Selma) and Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything). This list that could easily mirror the Oscars', with one exception: Keaton, who is sure to bounce someone from this group.
The HFPA also gave some unexpected love to There Will Be Blood director Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice, nominating Joaquin Phoenix's feverish performance as a stoner private eye for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical.
Ava Duvernay continued to be the breakout star of this awards season.
Ava Duvernay continued to be the breakout star of this awards season. Not only was her Martin Luther King Jr. biopic Selma
included (as expected) among the Best Picture/Drama nominees, but she
picked up a Best Director nomination as well. She'll compete in the
category with David Fincher (Gone Girl), Alejandro González Iñárritu (Birdman), Anderson and of course, Linklater.
The 72nd Golden Globes, hosted for the third time by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, will air on Jan. 11. on NBC.
Now introducing: Mr. and Mrs. Pitt. It's official, everyone! Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were married in a secret ceremony in Correns, France, this past Saturday, says a spokesperson for the couple.
The small and private wedding was only attended by a group of friends
and family, and the couple obtained their marriage license from, and
were married by, a local California judge. Plus, in everyday Brangelina
fashion, their kids were the main focus of the ceremony. According to
the source, Jolie was escorted down the aisle by Maddox and Pax.
Daughters Zahara and Vivienne threw the flower petals. And Shiloh and
Knox were the couple's ring bearers.
Sure, we've known that a wedding was in the works for Brad and Angie. The couple's been together for nine years and have been engaged for the past two. But they've publicly chosen to put off their wedding until marriage was available to everyone.
Though by the details coming out this morning, it seems like the
wedding plans have been underway for a while, especially since the kids
were eager for Mom and Dad to tie the knot.
"It seems to mean more and more to our kids," said Pitt in 2012. "We
made this declaration some time ago that we weren't going to do it 'til
everyone can. But I don't think we'll be able to hold out. It means so
much to my kids, and they ask a lot."
Looks like they've finally caved into the children's requests and made it official (we kid, we kid, it wasn't just about the kids, we're sure). But it looks like the entire thing was still a family affair.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
are now a married couple, the Associated Press broke the news. A
spokesperson for the couple confirms the pair tied the knot in a private
ceremony in France on Saturday, August 23 in front of family and
friends.
The non-denominational civil ceremony took place at the
couple's Chateau Miraval in the village of Correns. The powerhouse
couple reportedly obtained a marriage license beforehand from a
California judge, who was also on hand to conduct the nuptials in
France.
All their six children took part in the ceremony. Sons
Maddox, 13, and Pax, 11, accompanied their mother walk down the aisle.
Daughters Zahara, 9, and Vivienne, 6, threw flower petals, while Shiloh,
8, and Knox, 6, served as ring bearers.
Pitt, 50, and Jolie,
39, started dating after meeting on the set of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" in
2005. Pitt once said the movie was one of his favorites "because you
know... six kids. Because I fell in love." The actor proposed to Jolie
in 2012.
The pair will share screen again in "By the Sea" which she scripted. In the meantime, she is finishing her second directorial project "Unbroken", while he is promoting his latest flick "Fury". On Thursday during a photocall in Dorset, he reportedly flashed his wedding band.
JENNIFER Aniston has put her wedding on hold because of ex-husband Brad Pitt‘s upcoming wedding to Angelina Jolie.
Aniston, 44, has apparently pushed back her own big day to avoid any perceived overlap with Brad’s big day this summer.
“She does not want her day associated with them,” a source told Us Weekly.
Upon learning of Pitt’s plans, she initially considered moving her date up and getting married first, but Theroux, 41, changed her mind.
“Justin got weirded out by all the rushing,” the source said.
Aniston has put wedding planning completely on hold.
“Nothing has happened on that front in a month,” the source said.
Angelina Jolie organized a screening of Ewan MacGregor's The Impossible last Sunday in London. She posed for photos, smiling big and wearing a Versace dress, with Ewan and his young costar in the film, Tom Holland. The event took place at the Soho Hotel, and brought out other celebs like Noomi Rapace to see Ewan in The Impossible. Angelina praised Ewan's work, saying, "Ewan, I’ve known you for years and you’re one of my favorite actors. But I watched this and I didn’t recognize you. It’s strange; to say it’s one of the best performances of the year doesn’t really give it credit. It doesn’t feel like a performance; it comes from such an honest place." Angelina and Ewan's evening together came one day before he hit the red carpet with his costar Naomi Watts for their big London premiere.
Looks like Jude Law, Sienna Miller and Hugh Grant now have some high-profile company.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were revealed today to be among the victims of the sweeping News of the World phone-hacking scandal, whose far-reaching aftershocks led to the collapse of a historic British paper and to hundred of millions of dollars in payouts to its victims, including a slew of A-list celebs. Per the BBC, the Brangelina revelations surfaced as prosecutors announced in London Tuesday morning that eight people will face criminal charges in connection with the scandal, including former News International executive and News of the World editor Rebekah Brooks, as well as Andy Coulson, one-time communications director to Prime Minister David Cameron. They were slapped with a total of 19 charges, including "conspiring to intercept communications without lawful authority" from October 2000 to August 2006. More than 600 people have been identified as victims in the massive scandal, including a teenager who was kidnapped and later found dead.
Two individuals in particular—former chief reporter Neville Thurlbeck and former assistant editor James Weatherup—were named in connection with the Jolie-Pitt hacking, and were "charged on suspicion of conspiracy to intercept the voicemails" of the couple. In a statement, Brooks asserted her innocence. "I am not guilty of these charges. I did not authorise, nor was I aware of, phone hacking under my editorship," she said. "I will vigorously defend these allegations."
To date, a slew of celebs have scored massive settlements. Last year, Law received roughly $205,000, while his ex-girlfriend Miller was subsequently awarded $162,000. Charlotte Church nabbed $950,000, one of the highest awarded to a victim of the sprawling scandal.
Last week, everybody went a little bit crazy over Brad Pitt’s mom Jane. Jane Pitt had written a letter to the editor (for a Missouri newspaper) in which she extolled the virtues of Mitt Romney and bashed “Barack Hussein Obama — a man who sat in Jeremiah Wright’s church for years, did not hold a public ceremony to mark the National Day of Prayer, and is a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage.” Considering Brad is a well-known and vocal liberal Democrat, some of us were surprised that his mom was SO conservative, even using the “dog-whistle” wording that many die-hard Republican operatives use. Brad did not issue any kind of statement about his mom’s letter, and Brad’s brother Doug was on the Today show this week, and Doug basically said, “Eh, families can disagree about politics without it being a thing, you know?”
So, obviously, Angelina Jolie is the devil. I mean, that’s where this whole story is going! It was always going to end up there – no matter who does what or who says whatever, it’s always going to end up with “… and Angelina is the devil.” Star Magazine claims that Angelina is going to “confront” Jane about her political views, because, obviously.
Angelina isn’t happy with Brad’s mom Jane — and it’s starting to hurt their relationship!
Angelina Jolie has never been BFFs with Brad Pitt‘s mom Jane, who reportedly still stays in touch with Brad’s ex-wife Jennifer Aniston, but their relationship just took its coldest turn yet! Angelina is said to be “steaming mad” that Jane wrote a letter to The Springfield News-Ledger opposing gay marriage, and she wants her fiancé to step in.
“She has told Brad he must educate his mother,” a source tells Star magazine, “but Brad is too much of a mama’s boy.”
But wait, it gets worse.
“If Brad won’t do it, Angelina will have to take matters into her own hands and talk to Jane about how, as the mother of such a prominent celebrity, she shouldn’t be writing letters that clash with her son’s political opinions.”
The source adds that an Angelina-Jane confrontation would be devastating — and could potentially end the couple’s engagement:
“It’ll eventually end up in a huge blowout, with Brad stuck in the middle.”
[From Hollywood Life]
I really don’t get it. Angelina rarely discusses her personal politics (I really think she’s a neo-con), so why is everyone behaving like she’s some strident, in-your-face liberal? As for the whole idea that Brad’s mom should STFU because her son is a celebrity and a Democrat? That’s just dumb. This was never about “Jane Pitt is not entitled to her political opinions and she shouldn’t speak.” She can hold whatever arch-conservative opinion she wants, and she can shout them from whatever rooftop she wants. Everyone else has a right to react to her opinions, though, which is something to keep in mind in these discussions. Freedom of speech works both ways – Jane Pitt thinks President Obama is an anti-prayer, “baby-killing” lover of all things homosexual. I think Jane Pitt is an ignorant wingnut. See? Freedom of speech. I’m sure Brad doesn’t have the same opinions, and Angelina probably doesn’t either, and maybe they’ll say something, maybe they won’t. My guess is that none of Jane’s political thoughts came as any kind of SHOCK to their systems. Jane and Angelina seem genuinely close – and my guess is that when Angelina is with the Pitt family, they’re just talking about babies and grandchildren and work, not politics.
Has it occurred to anyone else that Shiloh Jolie-Pitt has the same haircut as Michelle Williams? Because that just occurred to me when I saw that Angelina (or somebody) tamped down Shiloh’s hair so it now looks like Michelle’s pixie cut. Anyway, these are some newish photos – two sets, actually. One set is of Angelina, Shiloh and Zahara leaving their hotel in Amsterdam yesterday, and then the second set is of their arrival at LAX. Note the bears!!!!! The girls got some Dutch bears. Is that a thing in the Netherlands? Bears? I thought that was just a German thing. Basically, these gigantic bears are the new “gerbils”. Whatever happened to those gerbils of doom, by the way? They were probably signed with CAA and now have a book deal. The gerbils are trying to “brand” themselves. And now it’s the bears’ turn. BEARS OF DOOM.
The Enquirer has a long story this week about Angelina and Brad’s bad parenting style. Basically, they are the Anti-Goop. Remember when Gwyneth – Brad’s ex! – said she’d “rather smoke crack than eat cheese from a can”? Well, Brad and Angelina would rather feed their kids processed junk food than force them to eat veggies.
Brad and Angelina are way too liberal in giving sweet treats to their kids.
“With their money and resources, you’d think their children would be eating like kings and queens,” an insider told The Enquirer. “But they pride themselves on giving their kids a simple, normal upbringing – and that includes soft drinks, candy, cookies and everything sugary that children love. Their youngsters are hooked on junk food.”
“Angie and Brad don’t know how to say no to their kids. And with six of them screaming at once, it’s just easier to give in than fight.”
Brad recently admitted, “There’s times like, ‘We gotta get up. Get up! Here’s your shoes. Drink this Coke. Drink it all. Right now!’ Just so we could get ‘em up and going.”
The insider says: “Brad and Angie fight over the nutrition issue constantly,” revealed the insider. “He sometimes cooks up organic vegetable and tofu stir-fries or big salads, but everyone – including Angie – turn their nose up at the healthy stuff. For all their fame and fortune, they face the same dilemmas as any stressed and overwhelmed parents.”

Eh. Since I’m not a parent, do I not have the right to chime in? I was raised in a different era, and I was raised in the South by a Southern mother. Sweet tea was a staple of our household, and while I no longer drink it regularly, I do get a hankering for it a couple times a year. There was also a lot of fried food in our house, and a lot of sweets (my mom has a huge sweet tooth). I ended up not having much of a taste for pastries and the like (I love anything salty), probably because I outgrew it by being introduced to it early on. I don’t know, though. I’m not the picture of extreme health today (I‘m about average), but I don‘t think it‘s because of how I was raised. But when you think about what OUR parents’ childhoods were like (back when pregnant women were smoking and drinking), I just don’t see how this is some HUGE deal. Should the Jolie-Pitts eat better? Yes. Should the kids eat their veggies? Of course. But it’s not a war crime to give your kids candy.
Immediately upon taking the stage to accept the award for Best Adapted Screenplay, along with his two co-writers, Jim Rash struck a pose very similar to the one of presented Angelina Jolie: hand on hop, right led extended, chest puffed out.
But the Community star insists he wasn't actually mocking the A-lister, just showing his affection for her.
"I just saw her pose and I thought, you know what, we have exactly the same legs," Rash said to reporters backstage. "It was a loving tribute... It was more like, oh, she's standing, great. I'm going to stand like that, too."
Whatever. It was hilarious. And, most importantly, it gives us a chance to remind viewers:
Community returns on March 15 with new episodes. It now features an Oscar winner! Tune in.
Angelina Jolie, you have your next mission (maybe go easy on the killing this time?).
Having grossed nearly $300 million, it would seem inevitable that the 2010 spy thriller "Salt" would have a sequel in today's Hollywood. And according to Deadline, that's exactly what's happening -- the site reports that Kurt Wimmer, the writer of the first film, is hunkering down to write a sequel in which Jolie will reprise her role as the Russian-trained CIA agent Evelyn Salt.
However, as Moviehole has reported, the second film will be missing one crucial part: director Phillip Noyce has stated that he won't be part of a sequel.
"If there ever is a sequel, better its directed by someone with a completely fresh take on what I believe could be a totally entertaining and complex series of stories," Noyce said in an interview with the site back in December.
Should the project come to pass, it'll be another big budget picture on Jolie's docket; she's already slated to star in David Fincher's re-imagining of the Elizabeth Taylor/Richard Burton catastrophe, "Cleopatra." Her directorial debut, "In The Land of Blood and Honey" is set to hit theaters in December.
