Fuelled by drink and drugs, this is the moment a man jumped onto a railway line in a bid to stop an oncoming train.CCTV footage shows how a terrified train driver only narrowly avoided killing moronic Nathan Barker.
The
21-year-old delayed 12 services for 90 minutes by dancing around on the
tracks at Bentley station, south Yorkshire, a court heard.
Barker admitted obstructing a railway and was jailed for 16 weeks by magistrates.
His behaviour was described as "senseless" by British Transport Police.
Sergeant
Steve Down, of BTP Doncaster, said: “The driver of a train arriving at
the station had to apply the emergency breaks when he spotted Barker
stood on the train tracks with his arms in the air.
“The driver
managed to stop the train in time and asked him to get back on to the
platform but he refused and stayed there until police arrived and
arrested him for obstructing the railway.”
Barker was high on drink and drugs at the time of the incident, the court heard.
Sgt
Down added: “Baker's behaviour can only be described as senseless. I
welcome the custodial sentence and hope it sends a clear message to
others that this sort of behaviour is not acceptable.”
