Singer Janet Jackson brought the South African leg of her Number Ones: Up Close and Personal tour to a spectacular close at GrandWest.
Jackson’s last visit to the city was during her Velvet Rope tour in the mid-1990s and because of her lengthy absence, she dedicated her hit, Miss You Much, to the Mother City.
It was clear from the packed Grand Arena that the feeling was mutual.
For just over 90 minutes Jackson sang and danced through most of her hits with calculated precision, never once allowing for some real vocal flexing.
Peppering her performance with shouts of “Cape Town” to an adoring fan base, she took long breaks between the dance numbers, the ballads and even more dancing.
She wore a black T-shirt and dark grey jeans with a white biker jacket, a blinging skull belt and studded suspenders
People love Janet Jackson but it would have been nice to get up close and personal with her through her music.
