MANILA, Philippines—ABS-CBN News is standing by the report of its
anchor Ted Failon after Philippine National Police (PNP) Director
General Alan Purisima slammed the broadcaster for his “personal attacks”
against him.
“ABS-CBN News stands strongly by the story of Ted Failon on PNP
chief Alan Purisima’s property in Nueva Ecija. ABS-CBN News conducted
rigorous research and fact-checking before putting out the report while
observing the highest ethical standards in journalism,” ABS-CBN News
said in a statement.
On Thursday, Purisima described as “tenacious and “rabid” the
media attacks hurled against him saying he had enriched himself while in
government service.
The police official slammed broadcaster Ted Failon, Noli de
Castro, Karen Davila and other broadcast journalists from ABS-CBN
network for their “personal attacks,” which he said influenced the
opinion of the Senate.
The police official was grilled by the Senate on Wednesday about his alleged unexplained wealth.
Failon made an expose in his TV program “Failon Ngayon,” which showed the 4.7-hectare property of the PNP chief in Nueva Ecija. The property was allegedly misdeclared by Purisima in his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN).
Failon described the property as luxurious with several buildings and his house as a mansion.
Purisima, however, denied the allegations saying his house is not a mansion but was just an “ordinary house.”
