In the early morning hours of Sunday, Aug. 24, shots rang out at 1OAK night club in Los Angeles. TMZ reports that famed producer Suge Knight was shot twice during the party, and is currently in surgery, according to eyewitnesses and his family.
The site says the co-founder of Death Row Records, 49, was able to
walk out of the club on his own, and was then taken to the hospital in
an ambulance.
The pre-VMAs party, which was hosted by R&B singer Chris Brown, was filled with celebrities, including Young Jeezy, Lil' Twist, The Game, E.J. Johnson, Derek Hough, Mark Ballas, Richard Simmons, and Tyson Beckford.
Around 1:30 a.m. PT, the club began to fill up with more people, and
an eyewitness describes the scene as "pretty chaotic and packed." At
1:35 a.m. PT, two gunshots were fired in a row, and the crowd
immediately began to disperse. Security guard quickly rushed to Brown
and the rest of his table, and they were soon evacuated.
"People were screaming and yelling and most ran out immediately," the
eyewitness tells Us Weekly. "The floor was covered with glass from
everyone dropping their drinks."
Model Beckford, grabbed the mic a few minutes later, saying, "It
wasn't a gun shot, trust me," but at 1:50 a.m., police swarmed the club,
forcing everyone to exit with their hands in the air.
Though no official statement has been released, the eyewitness
overheard police officers saying that approximately four people were
dead. Stay tuned to Us Weekly as this story develops.
