With Christmas around the corner, I’m sure you’re all getting your preparations ready, from gifts for friends and family to the copious amount of food you’ll have to go out and purchase. Keeping track of it all can be hard but, lucky for us iOS users, we have plenty of apps to keep us organised.
All iPhones and iPads come with the Reminders app pre-installed. It’s pretty good for basic list making and, for most, it will be adequate enough to get the job done. But for those that want a more powerful, or just plain different, experience, then the App Store has you covered.
Below are some of the very best to-do list making and reminders applications.
Any.DO is a beautifully minimal task managing app. Add task with a few taps including location or time-based reminders, mark the as complete with a swipe as if crossing them off a list and sync between your iPhone and Mac. You can add items by text or by voice and recurring items are possible.
The app also features a day planner which helps you see what is upcoming today and plan when you’ll get each task done.
Further, sharing lists is possible, perfect if you want a shared grocery or gift list with a partner or spouse.

AnyList focuses on one thing but does that one thing extremely well: grocery lists. Quickly add items from an extensive database of common groceries – these are quickly organised by categories to help you to find them in the store. You can also create your own categories and set favorite items for ease of access next time.
Recipes are also integrated meaning you can store you favorite recipes and add those ingredients to your grocery list quickly.
Sharing is another great aspect of AnyList, simply add the email address of your partner or roommate for example, and your list is shared with them and can be updated by both people.
For a marked change from the iOS stock Reminders app, CARROT is a great choice.
Instead of a static list of to-do items that you tick off at your will, CARROT has a personality. And a strong one. Get things done and you’ll be rewarded, but prepare to feel her wrath if you don’t complete your tasks.
CARROT is witty and gamifies task management with levelling up, achievements and rewards making the experience different, enjoyable and fun.

Clear+ utilises a gesture based interface to make to-do listing simpler. Pull down to add an item, swipe left or right to delete or complete an item and pinch out to see your different lists. That’s as simple as it gets.
Items are sorted by priority from top to bottom with the color scheme reflecting that and items can be dragged up or down to alter their position on the list. It’s a super simple and clean interface that makes task management not feel like a task in itself.
Sync with the Mac app is also a bonus.

Pocket Lists
Pocket lists received a major update recently and continues to be one of the most popular and feature-packed to-do apps.
Want recurring, location- or time-based reminders? You’ll find them here. Want to collaborate on lists? Also possible. Color-coding, check. Natural language input, yep. Optical Character Recognition also means you can create a list by simply taking a photo of a printed list, perfect if you see a recipe in a magazine. Passcode lock and cloud syncing round out the feature list.
Its extensive number of features means the learning curve is quite steep at first, but using the app becomes a breeze after a while and is perfect for those looking for a powerful to-do solution.

Wunderlist
Wunderlist on the Mac won the prestigious App of the Year award from Apple this year and the iOS app offers a similarly wonderful experience. It’s really usable for both personal and business use.

A huge benefit of Wunderlist is that it’s available on almost every platform and via the web so you can always access your lists.
