On Friday he was seen practicing the big descent with a stunt woman taking the place of co-star Rebecca Ferguson.
And the next day, 52-year-old Tom Cruise was shooting the daredevil scene for real as he dangled high up on the roof of Vienna Opera House in Austria.
Reprising his role as agent Ethan Hunt, Tom looked sharp in a black suit with a white shirt as he accompanied a glamourous looking Rebecca on a ledge before the pair shimmied down on ropes.
Daredevil: Tom Cruise, 52, filmed scenes with co-star Rebecca Ferguson for Mission Impossible 5 atop the Vienna Opera House on Saturday
Hercules star Rebecca, 30, was dressed in a yellow satin ballgown with asymmetric neckline which was cinched at the waist with navy ribbon.
The brunette also had on black high-heels but took them off before the pair lowered themselves hundreds of feet down the side of the grand building.
Brave Rebecca got into character and looked slightly daunted by the dizzying heights. Luckily however, stunt woman Lucy Cork was on standby to give assistance.
Nerve-wracking: Rebecca, 30, looked daunted as she got into character for the dramatic scene
Ready steady: The duo prepared to drop over the ledge of the grand and historic building
Revealing: Rebecca's dress got caught in a gust of wind as professional stunt woman Lucy Cork stood nearby to assist
As they stepped off the stone ledge Rebecca's dress was caught in a breeze and the beauty's black underwear displayed as she wrapped her legs around the Jerry Maguire star.
Professional stunt double Lucy was Tom's partner for the practise run on Friday and the duo were seen looking fearless as they stood peering over the balustrade of the historic monument.
Of course, both were secure in harnesses as they rapelled down the front of the impressive building, dangling hundreds of feet above the square below.
Here we go! Action man Tom held Rebecca close and she clutched her shoes as they started their descent
Back to earth: The pair were dressed to the nines as they dropped from the roof
Extreme: Rebecca wrapped her legs around Tom as the pair whizzed down ropes in the action-packed scene
In a clinch: The pair got up close and personal as they made their decent and kept smiling throughout
The pair laughed and chatted as they hung in the air, waiting for the crew to haul them back up or let them down.
It's18 years since Tom starred in the first Mission: Impossible but he barely looked a day older as director Christopher McQuarrie began filming the latest movie in the blockbuster franchise on Wednesday. Although it's Christopher's first M:I he and the Top Gun hero are frequent collaborators having worked together on Jack Reacher, Valkyrie and recent summer sci-fi film Edge Of Tomorrow.
