In an unexpected convergence of news stories, a Malaysia Airlines
passenger plane reportedly crashed in Ukraine near the Russian border
Thursday.
The Boeing 777 aircraft had 280 passengers and 15 crew members,
according to news reports citing information from an aviation industry
source.
The graphic above from FlightAware shows the plane's path.
The flight was heading from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, the main
international airport in the Netherlands, to Kuala Lumpur International
Airport.
Kuala Lumpur is the most populous city in Malaysia.
Political tensions and violence have been high in east Ukraine near the
Russian border since the situation in Crimea escalated earlier this
year.
Also this year, one of the biggest aviation mysteries in modern times occurred when a Malaysia Airlines flight disappeared vanished somewhere in the Indian Ocean.
The cause of the crash has not been confirmed, but Interfax agency
reports that Malaysia Airlines FL17 was SHOT DOWN over the Ukraine.
Again, that has not been confirmed as of yet.
