Calvin Harris kicks off the first official week of summer by capturing his first No. 1 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, as "Summer" heats up with a 2-1 climb.
The anthem also bounces 4-2 on Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs (4.4 mi
llion U.S. streams, 48 percent from Spotify, according to Nielsen BDS), while holding at No. 1 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay
for an eighth consecutive week. "Summer" sold 91,000 downloads in the
week ending June 22, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and has moved
905,000 since its mid-March release. (It lifts 9-8 on the Billboard Hot 100.)
The
coronation of "Summer" on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs halts the 12-week
reign of DJ Snake and Lil Jon's "Turn Down for What" (1-2). The latter
song remains a week shy of the record for the nearly
two-year-old-chart's longest command: Daft Punk's "Get Lucky," featuring
Pharrell Williams, led for 13 weeks last year.
DEADMAU5 DOMINATES: Deadmau5 debuts atop Dance/Electronic Albums
with the early digital release of "while(1<2)" (30,000 units). It
was available as a download in its first week before its CD
configuration bowed this Tuesday (June 24). It's the DJ's second
consecutive No. 1, following his 2012 set "Album Title Goes Here."
Just
behind deadmau5 at No. 2 is veteran DJ Tiesto with "A Town Called
Paradise," which starts with 15,000 sold. It's his 19th charted album,
tying him with Louie DeVito for the second-most; only Armin van Buuren
has tallied more (21). Deadmau5 and Tiesto both debut in the top 20 of
the Billboard 200, at Nos. 9 and 18, respectively.
Also
new this week on Dance/Electronic Albums is the debut album from Clean
Bandit, "New Eyes" (No. 6; 2,000). Single "Rather Be," featuring Jess
Glynne, edges up a spot (9-8) on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs. The
early-'90s-esque track is beginning to take hold with the mainstream,
improving 97-86 in its second week on the Hot 100.
FLIGHT OF 'FANCY': Iggy Azalea conquers another chart with "Fancy," igniting the top of Dance Club Songs
with her first No. 1 (3-1). Remixes from Yellow Claw, Dabin and Apashe
and Riddim Commission, among others, contributed to Azalea's
achievement. Concurrently, Azalea's smash tops the Hot 100 for a fifth
consecutive week.
"Fancy" is also the first Dance Club Songs No. 1
for featured act Charli XCX. As a featured act, she reached No. 25
early last year on Icona Pop's "I Love It," which spent a whopping 32
weeks on the chart. Since 1984, only Blondie's "Rapture" hung out longer
on Dance Club Songs (37 weeks).
'LATE' MOVER:
Following a June 16 performance on NBC's "Late Night With Seth Meyers,"
Stromae re-enters Hot Dance/Electronic Songs with "Papaoutai" (No. 44).
The world-dance track originally peaked at No. 40 upon its debut in
March. "Papaoutai" rockets to a new peak in its 17th week on World
Digital Songs (15-4), thanks to a 136 percent increase in downloads. The
Belgian singer has hit No. 1 with all four of his chart entries on
France Digital Songs.
