Although Disney’s Frozen has been out on home video in the United States for some time, the
Oscar-winning animated juggernaut continues to conquer box office
records worldwide. When factoring in the gross from this weekend’s
remaining international territories, Frozen has now surpassed Iron Man 3 to become the fifth highest-grossing film of all-time worldwide.
Japan deserves a huge chunk of the credit, as the movie has brought
in $193.7 million in the country to date, holding the No. 1 spot for ELEVEN STRAIGHT WEEKENDS,
making it the country’s fourth highest-grossing film in history. It is
also the country’s No. 3 Western movie of all-time after James Cameron’s
To sum up, Frozen has now earned a massive $1.219 billion globally, overtaking Iron Man 3‘s
$1.215 billion. Could the movie climb even higher before its run ends?
It’s difficult to know for sure, but I wouldn’t entirely bet against it.
I’d bet Frozen has exceeded even Disney’s pre-release expectations. This movie is HUGE, and its popularity is likely going to grow with time.
