It’s been about a year since Angus T. Jones walked away from the sitcom that made him a star. The former Two and a Half Men actor spent nearly a decade playing Jake on the show before his Christian faith prompted him to leave the series…in a highly-sensational fashion.
Allow us to refresh your memory.
Jones grew up before our eyes, putting the precocious “half” in CBS’ Two and a Half Men. So imagine Goss Gawkers surprise when Jones issued a very public plea (a la YouTube video) urging fans to boycott the award-winning sitcom he’d starred in since he was 10.
Two and a Half Men kept fans in stitches with its sidesplitting storylines about an uptight dad and his hedonistic philandering brother — who found themselves living under the same roof.
Real “filth,” if you ask Angus.
“Please stop watching it. Please stop filling your head with filth. People say it’s just entertainment. Do some research on the effects of television in your brain and I promise you, you’ll have a decision to make when it comes to…what you watch on television. It’s bad news.”
The 15-minute religious testimonial was uploaded by the Forerunner Christian Church, a California sanctuary where Jones first found Christ. Jones’ discovery of the Holy Bible made him uncomfortable with the risque humor that has made Two and a Half Men one of television’s most-watched comedies.
“If you watch Two and a Half Men, please stop watching Two and a Half Men. I’m on Two and a Half Men and I don’t want to be on it. If I am doing any harm, I don’t want to be here. I don’t want to be contributing to the enemy’s plan…”
In 2010, Jones inked a two season, 26-episode contract bumping his salary up to $300,000 per episode. But he felt being true to his faith was more important.
So, Angus packed up and put Tinseltown in his rearview. He’s currently studying towards a Bachelor’s degree at a school in Colorado and ministering with the World Harvest Outreach Church in Houston, where he lives almost full-time.
Oh — and he’s growing a beard, too.
You might just say Angus is the new Kirk Cameron. But the semi-retired actor says his only regret was publicly shaming Men creator Chuck Lorre.
