10. Reservations already in place for 12,000+ Tesla Model X SUVs
© Tesla MotorsPeople are lining up to buy the SUV version of the Tesla. A lot of reservations in comments about the wing doors. We on TreeHugger have spent years beingcritical of SUVs, but hey, it's a Tesla, it doesn't burn gas, and did I say it's a Tesla?
9. Record-breaking inflatable wind turbine to float 1000 feet above Alaska
© AltaerosHigh altitude wind turbines make so much sense; there is more wind and less NIMBY. Here's one that might fly soon.
8. Quote of the Day: Nick Cohen on "The climate change deniers have won"
Falling water levels at Hoover Dam / Raquel Baranow on Flickr/CC BY 2.0A surprising find in the top 10. Most of the interest and controversy comes from the statement "How can you persuade countries to accept huge reductions in their living standards to limit (not stop) the rise in temperatures?" Most of our commenters believe we can have both. "No one should be trying to convince people to have a lower standard of living. That's where 'we' have gone wrong."

Derek Markham/CC BY 3.0This is easy for Derek to write; he lives in New Mexico. Up here, the ground is still frozen solid.
6. Chainless electric bike folds up to fit under your desk, doesn't look dorky
© JiveBikeCommenter Corey says "Wait. Did you say not dorky?" I concur, it is not devoid of dork with that curved frame, or whatever you call it.
5. Which is greener, a gas or an electric stove?
live better electrically/Promo imageThe thing that is so great about this biz is that every day you have your preconceptions challenged and you have to revisit issues. But you have to be comfortable admitting that you were wrong.
4. Evolution of the bicycle in 60 seconds! (video)
Vimeo/Screen captureWhen the bicycle was first invented, there was a period of great innovation and change as various bike makers tried to get things just right.
3. Now this is clever: The Double O bike light

2. MicrobeScope turns your iPhone into a super science tool
© 4D Optical LLCMy next Kickstarter idea: a toothbrush attachment for my iPhone that analyzes my performance and timing. When our phones brush our teeth, we may not need to own anything else.
1. After Marius the giraffe, Copenhagen Zoo kills whole lion family (including 2 cubs)
Flickr/CC BY-SA 2.0This story tugged at so many heartstrings. Mike writes:
I feel like zoos should be responsible for the welfare of their animals until the end, and not just until it stops being convenient for them. I know that in nature this happens all the time, but a zoo isn't nature, and animals should at least be safe from their captors.
Commenter Smitt says "I am done with zoos. I will never step foot in another one." He/she is not alone; here is a really interesting article by critic Robert Everett-Green titled Why I’m never going to the zoo again , about why zoos are so over.
Zoos today are relics of the telegraphic age, lingering on at a time when photography and film can tell us vivid, detailed stories about animals without wrenching them physically from kin and habitat. The dream we share about zoos is that they allow some portion of wildlife to escape the disintegrating wilderness and flourish in our care. But there’s a zoo nightmare, too, which is that zoos distract us from taking real action to save the habitats we’re destroying. : TreeHugger
