March 3:Rick Ross performs at his 'Mastermind' album release party in New York City.

With the arrival of "Mastermind" atop the Billboard 200 chart, Rick Ross continues his streak of earning No. 1 albums without ever having tallied a top 10 hit single on the Billboard Hot 100 as a lead artist.
Ross has visited the top 10 of the Hot 100 just once, as a featured act on DJ Khaled's No. 10 hit "I'm on One" in 2011. Ross' highest-charting single as a lead on the Hot 100 is 2008's "The Boss," which reached No. 17. He's made 40 visits to the Hot 100 dating to his first in 2006.
The concept of scoring multiple No. 1 albums without a top 10 hit on the Hot 100 isn't new. Ross is among some of the Billboard 200's biggest stars who've collected top-selling sets but no Hot 100 top 10s. Here are the acts with the most No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 but who've yet to notch a Hot 100 top 10 (as a lead):
Billboard No. 1s, Artist
7, Kenny Chesney
6, Dave Matthews Band
6, Nas
5, DMX
5, Rick Ross
5, George Strait

The common thread among the acts above with a slew of No. 1 albums but no Hot 100 top 10s? All have strong appeal within their core fanbases but lack crossover interest. Rapper Ross, for example, has logged six top 10 singles (as a lead artist) on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Similarly, country superstar Kenny Chesney, who has the most No. 1 albums without a top 10 Hot 100 hit, has clocked 44 top 10s on Hot Country Songs (with 21 of those hitting No. 1). On the Hot 100, Chesney has risen as high as No. 16 with "Out Last Night" in 2009. Unlike, say, country acts who've managed pop crossover hits like Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Tim McGraw, Chesney has released songs almost exclusively to country radio, with his songs core-country in sound that would be out of place at pop or other formats.
Likewise for George Strait, who's earned five Billboard 200 toppers. The "King of Country" has scored a record 44 Hot Country Songs No. 1s, with the traditional-country icon's music a sonic fit exclusively for his home format.
