Superstar diva Barbra Streisand is preparing a new duets album, and it may feature the likes of Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Blake Shelton.
Her publicist confirmed the forthcoming duets set today (Jan. 25) to Billboard, but had no further details on the project, nor her collaborators.
Earlier today, it was reported by other news outlets that the album would feature collaborations with Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Bette Midler, Stevie Wonder and many more A-list singers.
Attitude magazine reported that producer Walter Afanasieff posted a photo of him, Babyface and Streisand on his official website with the caption: "Co producing with Kenny 'Babyface' Edmonds the new Barbra Streisand duets album. Which will feature singers and musicians like Lionel Richie, Babyface, Blake Shelton, Stevie Wonder, Josh Groban, Michael Bublè, Lady Gaga, Bette Midler, Andrea Bocelli, Beyoncè, Billy Joel, John Mayer and many others…" However, that post had seemingly been deleted from his site by late morning on Saturday. (Perhaps Afanasieff spoke too soon?)
Afanasieff has previously said, via his website, that he was working on a duets album for Streisand since 2012. He's been sharing news of the project since at least September of that year, when he said that the album would feature "Usher, Babyface, Willie Nelson, Robin Thicke, Lionel Richie, Yo Yo Ma, and many others." That lineup of guests continued to be reported on his site until at least December.
If one scrolls through Afanasieff's Twitter feed , there are photos of him in the studio in recent months with Babyface, Wonder and Shelton. He first shared a photo of him with Streisand and Babyface on Oct. 2, 2012. A month before that, he posted a photo of himself and Willie Nelson, with the caption "recording for Barbra Streisand's duets album!"
With so many artists having seemingly recorded vocals for Streisand's duets album, it will be interesting to see which acts make the final tracklist.
Streisand's last new album, the archival collection "Release Me," debuted at No.7 on the Billboard 200 in 2012. It marked her 32nd top 10 album and extended her record as the female artist with the most top 10 albums in chart history.
She released the compilation "Duets" in 2002, which featured previously released collaborations and two new recordings. It hit No. 38 on the Billboard 200 chart.
