Calvin Harris and Alesso score the top debut on Dance/Electronic Songs as “Under Control” opens at No. 12, powered by 26,000 first-week downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The collaboration, featuring vocals by English act Hurts, also enters at No. 6 on Dance/Electronic Digital Songs, affording Harris his sixth top 10 on that chart.
Come December, Harris will be co-headlining the Greater Than tour with Tiesto, which, along with Pete Tong, GTA and Danny Avila will trek across the UK.
Alesso, meanwhile, is inviting fans to participate in his Uprising tour via uploading pictures of themselves with their hands in the air through Facebook, Instagram and raiseyourhandsup.alessoworld.com, where daily prizes are promised.
OOH, 'OOH LA LA': Goldfrapp sees a 654% increase in download sales this week for its seven-year-old hit “Ooh La La” as a result of its inclusion in the new Apple TV ad for the iPhone 5s. The song hits Dance/Electronic Digital Songs (No. 14, 10,000) and debuts at No. 25 on Dance/Electronic Songs.
The song is allowed to re-enter the main dance songs survey as it ranks in the upper half of the list, as is the case for older titles on Billboard’s airplay/sales/streaming hybrid charts. Goldfrapp took the track to No. 1 on Dance Club Songs and No. 3 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay in 2006.
STILL SUMMER: “Love to Love You Donna,” a new remix album from Donna Summer, debuts at No. 2 on Dance/Electronic Albums (4,000 units), as well as at No. 97 on the Billboard 200. The set features the Laidback Luke remix of the late diva's Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 from 1978, “MacArthur Park,” which has been serviced to club DJs.
Afrojack, Frankie Knuckles & Eric Kupper, Hot Chip, Masters at Work, Duke Dumont and Giorgio Moroder help make up the all-star crew of remixers who reinvented many of Summer’s biggest pop and dance hits.
NO LONGER MIA: M.I.A. enters Dance/Electronic Songs at No. 26 with “Y.A.L.A.,” the first song available from her album “Matangi,” due Nov. 5. The track shifts 11,000 and enters Dance/Electronic Digital Songs at No. 11.
On other Dance/Electronic Songs debuts, Dutch DJ Hardwell, recently voted No. 1 on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs list for 2013, is new at No. 47 with “Countdown.” The track also impacts Dance/Electronic Digital Songs at No. 42 (4,000).
Additionally new to Dance/Electronic Digital Songs is the first Billboard chart appearance from Emika. Her ambient electronic cover of Chris Isaak’s iconic “Wicked Game,” which never hit on a Billboard dance chart back in the day, enters at No. 46 (4,000 units). Isaak's original rose to No. 6 on the Hot 100 in 1991.
BIG 'BOY': Diplo, along with GTA, captures the Digital Greatest Gainer on Dance/Electronic Songs with “Boy Oh Boy.” Soaring 33-19, it's Diplo’s highest-peaking song on the list. Meanwhile, “Boy Oh Boy” cruises 24-15 in its second week on Dance/Electronic Digital Songs (9,000, up 78%).
Diplo also enjoys placements on Dance/Electronic Songs with “Earthquake” (No. 32) and “Revolution” (No. 48).
'LIGHTS' UP: Havana Brown picks up her third No. 1 on Dance Club Songs, as “Flashing Lights” sparkles 2-1. She previously led the list with “We Run the Night,” featuring Pitbull, last year and “Big Banana,” featuring R3hab, in January.
Remixes from Dave Aude, DJLW and Richard Vission, among others, helped “Lights” shine brightest this week.
