Have you been keeping up with the latest season of American Idol? Apparently, neither has anyone else!
Bringing Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban into the fold has done absolutely nothing to attract viewers to the aging talent competition, according to Nielsen ratings. Depending on who’s telling the story, the revamped judging panel — which also includes veteran Randy Jackson — seems to be driving people away.
Guess multi-colored wigs and pop powerhouses don't always translate into television gold after all.
Imagine that.
Idol continued to tumble in the ratings this week, losing the coveted 18-49 demographic to ABC’s Emmy-wining comedy Modern Family, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Among adults, last night’s two-hour edition of Idol drew 13.1 million viewers, down 8% from last week. It was the third consecutive week of in-season Wednesday lows, according to Nielsen.
Overall, it was Idol’s worst Wednesday performance since the show debuted in the Summer of 2002. It was also the smallest audience since Aug. 14, 2002. Additionally, it matched all-time Wednesday lows in adults 18-34.
Oy!
