MARIAH Carey looks set to be the newest face of American Idol.
Rocker Steven Tyler on Thursday announced that he’s leaving the show after two seasons.
Reports also suggest that Idol stalwart Randy Jackson is also on his way out. Earlier in the day, Jennifer Lopez hinted that she’s splitting as well.
Now, sources tell Us Weekly that pop superstar Mariah is in serious talks about joining the TV talent show’s judging panel.
“[Show producers] think they need to freshen everything up now,” dished one insider.
“They are in serious talks with Mariah and it’s very close to being a done deal. And they will move Randy into a more mentoring role.”
It’s also been rumored that Adam Lambert could be joining the judges’ panel.
The singer — who came second on the talent search contest in 2009 — has reportedly been in talks for a month with show bosses, who see him as the perfect addition to the program because he has such a big fan base and would understand the challenges the contestants must deal with.
“He personifies the show, and will be a popular choice right from the start,” a source said.
“He knows what it’s like to be on the receiving end of the judges’ comments, he has a human touch, and they know they can’t go wrong if they bring him on.
“He would be able to bring a unique perspective to the show. People love him.”
