Jane Pitt, Brad Pitt‘s Mama, has penned an interesting letter that was printed yesterday in The Springfield News-Leader. Mama Pitt urged fellow-Christians to vote for Mitt Romney, rather than that liberal who supports gay marriage and “the killing of unborn babies” — AKA Barack Obama. Well, that’s gotta be a little awkward for Brangelina. Read more from the letter inside.
Apparently there was some initial confusion as to who actually wrote the letter. The Missouri newspaper first printed an editor’s note claiming that the writer was of no relation to Brad Pitt. But that letter was later replaced with this note: “To clear up earlier confusion, the News-Leader has verified the letter writer is the mother of actor Brad Pitt and local businessman Doug Pitt.”
Now I find that interesting; did they absolutely have to verify who this woman was? Why not leave the writer as “Jane Pitt”; unless of course the paper (or the writer herself) wanted to be identified specifically as the mother of Brad Pitt? Strange.
Here is what The Hollywood Reporter had to say:
The letter — itself a response to another opinion piece in the newspaper justifying Christians’ rights to refuse to vote for Romney because he is a Mormon — identifies Mrs. Pitt as “a Christian [who differs] with the Mormon religion.”
And here is the letter in full from Jane Pitt:
I have given much thought to Richard Stoecker’s letter (“Vote for Mormon against beliefs,” June 15). I am also a Christian and differ with the Mormon religion.
But I think any Christian should spend much time in prayer before refusing to vote for a family man with high morals, business experience, who is against abortion, and shares Christian conviction concerning homosexuality just because he is a Mormon.
Any Christian who does not vote or writes in a name is casting a vote for Romney’s opponent, Barack Hussein Obama — a man who sat in Jeremiah Wright’s church for years, did not hold a public ceremony to mark the National Day of Prayer, and is a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage.
I hope all Christians give their vote prayerful consideration because voting is a sacred privilege and a serious responsibility.
As we know, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have both come out in support of gay rights and Pitt himself declared his support of Obama in the 2012 election. However, Pitt has also come to the defense of his mother (as any son should), having told The Hollywood Reporter, “She’s very, very loving — very open, genuine, and it’s hilarious because she always gets painted in the tabloids as a she-devil. There’s not an ounce of malice in her. She wants everyone to be happy.”
I think Brad Pitt is right for speaking up for his Mom; sons are supposed to be obsessed with their mothers– even to a fault, lol. While it doesn’t sound like she wants everyone want to be happy, I’m sure Brad felt that way growing up with her and that’s how it should be. It’s probably hard for Obama supporters, gay rights activists and pro-choice individuals to see Jane Pitt as a kind person. And I wonder what that means about the difference between someone’s personality and their political views. Can you write the things Jane Pitt has written and still be considered a nice person, or are our beliefs a direct reflection of our personalities? I wouldn’t guess at the answer but I believe we are first and foremost products of our environments and we owe much of our selves and our ideas to where and what we came from.
