Her look of bewilderment and sadness was unmistakable as 'American Idol' judge Jennifer Lopez watched in horror as contestant Symone Black, 16, fell from the 'Idol' stage.
The young chanteuse was belting a rendition of Otis Redding's '(Sittin' On) the Dock of the Bay' when her legs buckled and, to the shock of the judges, she came crashing down onto a cameraman who tried to rescue her.
"A doctor, please," shouted one of the production assistants as soon as Black fell to the ground from an estimated height of about 5 feet.
The fledgling singer's father was among those who sought help urgently. At least one person who accompanied the young Californian said she had received a blow to the head, but this was not confirmed.
Fox didn't help ease anyone's anxiety, either, by dramatically ending the episode with a scene of Nigel Lythgoe tending to a seemingly half-conscious Black while calling for a medic.
Black soon came to and she could be seen walking off the set to receive medical attention. The medical diagnosis of the fall was dehydration, which explained why Black fainted.
Despite the difficult moment on national television, Symone did not lose her sense of humor. "Does this mean I get a yes?" she asked. Needless to say, Symone remained in the competition.
