R&B singing sensation, Rihanna, is in the news again with reports about poor ticket-sales to her upcoming shows. Reports have filtered through that dates from her "Loud" tour across the US have even been cancelled.
However a source within her concert promoter, Live Nation, said all these reports are inaccurate. The same source elaborated further, saying that thirty shows in North America are on target to sell-out on the night even though the concerts are not until June and July. Typically R&B shows are known to be "late selling", but across the board, live entertainment has taken a huge hit during the current economic downturn. Yet her manager, Jay Brown, has advised RiRi to cancel some of the US dates based on sales figures so far. The New York Post cites the example of a show with Cee Lo Green at the huge T.D. Garden arena in Boston has only sold 3,700 tickets so far, needing 15,000 ticket sales to break even - but the show is months away on July 24.
Sales for her concerts in Europe have really sky-rocketed though, with an incredible 56 shows already sold out.
During 2010, Rihanna had a string of low ticket sales to her concerts on her "Last Girl on Earth" tour. This ultimately led to the split with her manager, Marc Jordan, and the move to her current Roc Nation representative Jay Brown. But with a similar sales pattern emerging, it seems that people are not wanting to go and see the Bajan beauty on the grand scale she has in mind. Some suggestions have included doing theatres and smaller venues.
