The do-it-yourself soda maker takes a direct tackle against Coke and Pepsi in its latest ad featuring spokesperson Scarlett Johansson. But the ad won't be seen by anyone during this year's Super Bowl broadcast — and it's not because ScarJo gets too sexy in it. (Nothing to see here, folks.)
Fox allegedly killed the ad because it was "afraid of Coke and Pepsi," SodaStream CEO Daniel Birnbaum told USA Today .
“What are they afraid of?” Birnbaum asked. “Which advertiser in America doesn’t mention a competitor? This is the kind of stuff that happens in China. I’m disappointed as an American.”
Ironically, in the ad, Johansson wonders how to get the video to go viral. Her idea is to don a provocative black dress and seductively sip fizzy water. Turns out, the company simply needed to get itself banned from the Super Bowl ad lineup. The ad has accrued more than 1.6 million views since its release on YouTube Monday.
