For the first time in 36 years, Streisand's return to the Academy Awards was during the show's In Memoriam montage, which concluded with the image of The Way We Were composer Marvin Hamlisch.
'Marvin Hamlisch was a composer of extraordinary depth and versatility,' said Barbra.

The Funny Girl star then crooned the beloved number, which was the title song of the classic 1973 film of the same name starring herself and Robert Redford.
