Talk about “Knockin’ ‘Em Dead…”
Last night’s second season premiere of The Walking Dead broke a cable record, attracting over 7.3 million viewers and shattering The Closer’s record for the biggest ever audience for a basic cable drama. S That’s up 38% from last year’s Halloween night premiere and a mayjah boost from the 5.2 million viewers it averaged in its first season. The show was television’s No. 1 series for the night, according to Nielsen.
AMC proudly boasts that the 4.8 million viewers in the adults 18-49 demographic was a record-setting number – more than any other basic cable drama in history in that category. According to Charlie Collier, President of AMC:
“The Walking Dead is one of those rare television programs that reaches both a core genre fan as well as broad audiences simply looking for a great, character-based story. We’re so proud of and grateful for the amazing team on both sides of the camera who works so hard and is so committed to making this a unique programming event. That The Walking Dead is now the most watched drama in the history of basic cable is staggering, just like our zombies.”
