'After Earth,' 'Movie 43' sweep Razzies; Sandler left empty-handed

(Reuters) - Big budget sci-fi flop "After Earth" and ensemble comedy
"Movie 43" led the Razzie Awards on Saturday while annual favorite Adam
Sandler went home empty-handed at the ceremony that mauled Hollywood's
worst films and performances of the year.

"After Earth," starring Will Smith and his teenage son Jaden, picked
up three gold spray-painted raspberry accolades: Jaden Smith for worst
actor, Will Smith for worst supporting actor and worst screen combo for
the father-son stars.

The
$130 million film, co-written by Will Smith and directed by M. Night
Shyamalan, was a major flop for Sony Corp's Columbia Pictures last year,
grossing just $60 million at the U.S. and Canadian box office.

Relativity
Media's "Movie 43," which features 16 off-beat comedy sketches with
stars such as Halle Berry, Kate Winslet and Hugh Jackman, won worst
picture, worst screenplay for its 19 screenwriters, and worst director
for its 13 filmmakers.

The
Razzies, created in 1980 as an antidote to the backslapping of
Hollywood's awards season and now in its 34th year, is held on the
evening before the glitzy Oscars ceremony, the biggest night of honors
for the film industry.

The
Razzie awards are selected by about 800 members of the Golden Raspberry
Award Foundation, who can purchase a membership for online voting
rights in the annual panning of films. Eight of the nine categories are
voted by members, while the ninth for worst screen combo was determined
by more than 80,000 votes on movie review website RottenTomatoes.com.

The
award winners rarely attend to collect their statuettes in person,
although Sandra Bullock notably attended in 2010 to collect her worst
actress and worst screen couple awards for "All About Steve," the night
before she won the best actress Oscar for "The Blind Side."

Sandler,
who has earned more than 20 Razzie nominations over the course of his
career, failed to win any of his seven Golden Raspberries nods this year
for comedy "Grown Ups 2," which was bludgeoned by critics.

The
"Wedding Singer" star won two Razzies last year for the father-son
comedy "That's My Boy" and pulled off the only "Razzie sweep" for his
film "Jack and Jill" in 2012, winning all 10 awards handed out that year.

This
year's worst actress went to another Razzie regular, actor-director
Tyler Perry in drag for the lead character of "A Madea Christmas." Reality TV personality Kim Kardashian was named worst supporting actress for her role in "Tyler Perry's Temptation."

Disney's
"The Lone Ranger" film starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer, one of
last summer's notable big-budget flops, was named worst remake/rip-off
or sequel. The film, made for more than $200 million, failed to perform at the box office and lost $190 million for the studio.

Little Boy Pays It Forward! (Gives Away Money He Found)

-- Myles Eckert, eight, found the cash in the parking lot of Cracker Barrel on February 7

-- Instead of buying a video game, he gave it to Lt. Col. Frank Dailey who was eating at the restaurant

-- He said in a note that Dailey reminded him of his deceased dad who was a soldier and his family liked to 'pay it forward'

-- Army Sgt. Andy Eckert was killed in Iraq, just five weeks after Myles was born

When
eight-year-old Myles Eckert found $20 in a Cracker Barrel parking lot,
he didn't spend it on a video game - he gave it to a soldier to thank
him for his service.

Myles was just five-weeks-old when his father, Army Sgt. Andy Eckert was killed in Iraq.

In honor of his dad's memory, the Ohio boy wrapped the money in a touching handwritten note and handed it to Lt. Col. Frank Dailey who was eating lunch at the restaurant:

'Dear Soldier - my dad was a soldier. He's in heaven now. I found this 20 dollars in the parking lot when we got here. We like to pay it forward in my family. It's your lucky day! Thank you for your service. Myles Eckert, a gold star kid.'

CBS News reported the young boy was excited when he found the cash on February 7 and began planning what he could spend it on.

'I kind of wanted to get a video game, but then I decided not to,' Myles said.

He changed his mind when he saw the officer in uniform, 'because he was a soldier, and soldiers remind me of my dad.'

For Dailey, who was stationed at the Ohio Air National Guard base near Toledo, the honor was overwhelming.

'It's incredible being recognized in such a manner,' he said. 'I look at it (the note) every day.'

Dailey said the gift, which he gave away, provided him with 'a lifetime direction, for sure.'

He told CBS News he hopes the little green Post-It will inspire other people across America to give as generously as Myles.

While little Myles was too young to remember his dad, he has learned a lot about him from stories, pictures and dog tags.

'I imagine him as a really nice person and somebody that would be really fun,' Myles said.

The boy's mom, Tiffany Eckert, said after her son gave away the money he found, he wanted to visit his dad's grave site.

'He wanted to go see his dad,' she said. 'And he wanted to go by himself that day.'

Eckert
captured the moving moment the little boy hugged his dad's gravestone,
showing that the soldier's legacy lives on in the good deeds of his
kindhearted son.

Chris Brown -- Anger Triggered by Bipolar Disorder

0228_chris_brown_court_tmz2
Chris Brown has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, severe insomnia and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ... and that's why he has had such anger issues ... this according to new court docs.

Chris was in court today for a progress hearing in the Rihanna beating case.  Documents were filed by the facility where Chris just completed 90 days of anger management therapy. In fact, Chris stayed longer, just completing 95 days.

In the legal docs -- obtained by TMZ -- an official from the rehab facility wrote that ... in addition to his diagnosis ... Chris was self-medicating inappropriately.

The
facility writes, "Mr. Brown became aggressive and acted out physically
due to his untreated mental health disorder, severe sleep deprivation,
inappropriate self-medicating and untreated PTSD." They never explain the cause of the PTSD. The letter also says Chris was diagnosed with Bipolar II.

The letter says Chris is on meds for the bipolar and other conditions.

Chris
has learned various relaxation exercises, according to the letter, and
he's tested negative for drugs, including weed, during his stay.

The facility says he's doing really well.
It says he gets up at 5 AM and works hard.  They say he's been
especially good with community service, saying, "Mr. Brown's attitude
has been beyond exemplary in regard to his community service
responsibilities.

The World's Longest Aircraft Finally Gets Off the Ground

The World's Longest Aircraft Finally Gets Off the Ground
The HAV304 took the crown of “world's longest aircraft” with its inaugural flight today. The gargantuan spans a football field and towers just over two stories in height, owing its construction to pure metal.
It sacrifices little in being the world's longest, as it still reaches
100 mph, which is triple that of the dwarfish Goodyear blimp.
Further, it can stay airborne for just over three weeks (and
hypothetically, if it could maintain its maximum speed for all that
time, it would travel over 50,000 miles.)

All in all, the HAV304 offers nothing short of the glory one would
expect from a gargantuan blimp-hybrid-aircraft that is partially funded
by the lead singer of Iron Maiden. So run to the hills , tundra, or any extreme environment, as this runway-free goliath will soon be delivering supplies to you.

The $40 Million Delivery Blimp

The $40 Million Delivery Blimp
The Ice Road Truckers may soon have themselves some competition if Canadian specialty aviation company, Discovery Air, has its way. They want to deliver supplies to the Great White North's most remote locales via dirigible by 2014.

Discovery Air and Hybrid Air Vehicles have announced plans to launch a
commercial Heavy Lift Air Vehicle service serving mining camps and
secluded villages in the Northwest Territory using airships originally
developed for long-term reconnaissance by the US military.

These hybrid aircraft—"hybrid" in that they use both the lift from
non-flammable Helium and the aerodynamics of the ship to stay
aloft—employs laminated fabric covering an internal catenary system as
the hull.
The airships will be able to carry up to 50 tons of cargo as a time and
will purportedly be able to land or take off from virtually
anywhere—thanks to its four propulsion fans.

"The North has been waiting a long time for a year-round, heavy-lift, transport capability." Dr. Barry Prentice, Professor of Supply Chain Management at the Asper School of Business in Winnipeg, Manitoba, stated.
"The conditions are right for a new form of transport that is capable
of heavy lift, but is also low cost and environmentally sustainable."

These blimps will be able to travel up to 115mph (185km/h) without the dangers of an overland route. They will, on the other hand, run about $40 million apiece.

Two former Navy SEALs found dead aboard 'Captain Phillips' ship

Two American security officers and former Navy SEALs have been found dead on board the Maersk Alabama , the cargo ship whose hijacking by Somali pirates inspired the film "Captain Phillips," Seychelles Island police said Wednesday.Maersk Alabama

According to police ,
Jeffrey Reynolds and Mark Kennedy, both 44, were discovered dead by a
colleague who went to check on Kennedy late Tuesday afternoon while the
ship was moored in Port Victoria. No cause of death was given and an investigation is underway.

A.P.
Moller-Maersk said in a statement, "The cause of the death for both men
is part of the ongoing investigation, but it was not related to vessel
operations or their duties as security personnel."

[Updated Feb. 26 at 1:25 p.m.: Autopsy results indicate the officers died of respiratory failure and suspected heart attacks, according to CNN , and the preliminary police investigation report includes suspicion of drug use.]

Reynolds and Kennedy worked for Trident Security Firm USA, which identified them  as former Navy SEALs.

BEST MOVIES OF 2013: Turan | Sharkey | Olsen

The necessity of having armed security officers aboard the ship in
the first place was precipitated by its 2009 hijacking off the coast of
Somalia, which made headlines at the time and was further popularized in
the mainstream consciousness by the recent success of "Captain Phillips," the Paul Greengrass -directed film based on the incident and released last fall.

The Oscar-nominated film, starring Tom Hanks as Capt. Richard Phillips and Barkhad Abdi
as a pirate leader, portrays how machine-gun-toting men boarded the
unarmed 500-foot-long ship, tried to seize control of it and eventually
escaped in a lifeboat with Phillips as hostage.

Phillips was rescued after three days at sea when SEAL snipers shot
and killed his three captors, and the captain was hailed as hero. He
wrote a book about his ordeal, "A Captain's Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy
SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea," which became the basis for the film.

But while Phillips' story -- and by extension, "Captain Phillips" --
had a happy ending, the Maersk Alabama has not been so fortunate, facing
further pirate assaults in recent years. The ship was attacked a second time in 2009, again in 2010 and yet again in 2011. Each time, though, the assailants were repelled by armed security forces.

SANDRA BULLOCK Is Making Bank Off 'GRAVITY'

Sandra Bullock is set to rake in a ton of cash from her film Gravity .

The brunette star is expected to take in about $70million … yes, seventy million dollars, from the blockbuster flick.
How is that possible? Well, a lot of it has to do with just how huge of
a draw she is at the box office, especially after the success of The Blind Side.

The Hollywood Reporter
is claiming they’ve got an exclusive source saying that Sandra was
guarenteed $20million up front, and 15% of the “first dollar gross.” So what does that mean?

Each studio negotiates individual deals with theater
owners to determine what those rentals are, but a rule of thumb is that
the studio will collect roughly 40 to 50 percent of the box office (it
gets somewhat less in foreign markets than domestically).

Gravity has earned more than $700 million at the worldwide box office and is expected to cross the $750 million mark. Assuming Warners gets 45 percent of that, Bullock’s take would be more than $50 million, including her upfront payment.
But theatrical revenue is just one part of what she’ll make, as she
also gets a percentage from home video, TV and ancillary revenue.

Watch Beyonce Sing 'Happy Birthday' to a Fan

Beyonce
sang “Happy Birthday” to one lucky fan named Shehnaz, who turned 22
while at Bey’s Birmingham, England show and we are super jealous.

Mrs. Carter decided on the impromptu gesture when she noticed that
Shehnaz and company had a sign proclaiming it was their friend’s
birthday. At which point she took it upon herself to stop the show and serenade the girl.

On the plus side, all you have to do is scream your name really
loudly when Queen B gets to that part and it’s almost like she’s singing
“Happy Birthday” to you.

Or at least her crotch is. This is a super crotch heavy video, which you can enjoy above.

Justin Bieber’s Miami DUI Arrest: See His Wobbly Sobriety Test Here!

Justin Bieber was described as “excited, talkative, profane, cooperative, insulting, and cocky” by cops in the police report during his Jan. DUI arrest in Miami ,
but RadarOnline.com has obtained video footage of the Canadian pop star
performing his sobriety tests and the word “wobbly” comes to mind.

Splash NewsAfter being arrested for drag racing and DUI in Miami Beach, Bieber, 19, was brought to the jail facility where he’s shown attempting to walk a straight line.

The “Baby” singer is shown in baggy black shorts, a baggy black hoody
over his head and orange sneakers walking back and forth along a white
taped line on the floor while several police officers watch over him.

Bieber stumbles a bit during his first run at it and as he turns around he loses his balance a bit and nearly falls over.

He continues with about two more successful runs, but looks bored and frustrated by the end.

After turning down a plea deal
offered by Prosecutors, they are now hoping this surveillance video
will help strengthen their case that Bieber was under the influence at
the time of his arrest.

Bieber’s attorney, Mark Shapiro, entered a not guilty plea to Miami-Dade County the exact same day the singer turned himself into a Toronto Police Department where he was charged with criminal assault .

Do you think Bieber looks intoxicated in the video footage? Sound off in comments below…

Convincing Couple Katy Perry and John Mayer Broke Up

LOS ANGELES, CA - FEBRUARY 10: Katy Perry and John Mayer attends the 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards at STAPLES Center on February 10, 2013 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Kevin Mazur/WireImage)
E! reports that Katy Perry and John Mayer ended their coupledom "within the last few days." Did you feel the turning of the Earth stutter? Did the stars cease in their paths? Perhaps, perhaps, for the world knows no rupture like the ending of a true, convincing, actual great love of our times. And just on the heels of giddy engagement rumors sparkling up the tabloids (a summer wedding for their fake wedding, natch).
The pair has been fawning in the public eye since the summer of 2012, breaking up briefly, and then reuniting in March of last year. In an off-again moment Perry called Mayer a "broken bird." In an on-again, they posed with each other's families for '90s-style family portraits.
Their public love had quite a public run. They posed for an Exclusive Couple Portrait for Vanity Fair (trademark pending) — which involved stroking and kissing and general signs of "physical affection." They gushed about each other in magazine interviews. She went around wearing various diamond rings of various sizes on her left ring finger, and then never responded to requests for comment. Truly it was a storybook love for our times. Surely one does not wear twin hair-buns to a pool party with someone one doesn't truly love. Surely one doesn't dress in coordinated fashions.
But there we are. Sometimes we're left only with memories of happier times in turtlenecks (and perhaps a lock of hair), and the distant, nagging worry that maybe things were imaginary all along.
