Thugs 'stabbed pizza driver to death for his phone' as he made one final delivery before quitting job to start new career

'Quiet, calm and gentle': Thavisha Lakindu Peiris, 25, was stabbed to
death as he made his final pizza delivery. He was due to start his
career as an IT consultant

A pizza delivery driver about to start a new career was stabbed
through the heart by two thugs trying to steal his mobile phone, a court
heard.

University graduate Thavisha Lakindu Peiris was stabbed
repeatedly in his car as he made the final delivery of his shift on
October 27 last year.

'Quiet, calm and gentle' Mr Peiris - who had
been persuaded to carry out a final delivery before clocking off - had
moved from Sri Lanka in November 2011 to study economic engineering at
Sheffield Hallam University.

He was about to start a new career in
IT technology before he was stabbed to death in Sheffield, South
Yorkshire, a jury was told.

Shamraze Khan, 26, appeared at
Sheffield Crown Court today charged with his murder, while Kasim Ahmed,
18, has already pleaded guilty to the charge.

'Quiet, calm and gentle': Thavisha Lakindu Peiris, 25, was stabbed to death as he made his final pizza delivery. He was due to start his career as an IT consultantRobert Smith QC, prosecuting, said it was a ‘joint enterprise’ motivated by robbery.

'The
prosecution submit that the defendant Shamraze Khan and another man,
Kasim Ahmed, were jointly responsible for the murder of Thavisha
Peiris,' he said.

He added: 'Thavisha was chosen as a target for
robbery by Khan and Ahmed, just as they had selected the couple only an
hour or so beforehand.

'The mobile phone had clearly been their target.'

The prosecutor told the jury: 'By October last year that Mr Peiris was due to start work in the field of information technology.

'He was never able to use his studies to
his advantage to take up work in his chosen sphere, or to return to Sri
Lanka, because he was stabbed to death.'

The jury heard that barely an hour before the pair left Thavisha in a
pool of blood at the wheel of his car as they attempted to rob his
mobile phone, they had already robbed a young couple in Sheffield city
centre.

Both Ahmed and Khan accept being responsible for that knifepoint robbery in which mobile phones were also stolen.

Mr
Smith said: 'Regardless of which defendant was actually responsible for
inflicting the fatal stab wound [on Thavisha], they were both jointly
involved in the attack and each is guilty of the offence of murder.'

The court heard the pizza delivery driver had pulled up to deliver an order when he was fatally attacked.

His phone was found in his car - where it had been yanked from its windscreen holder.

A post-mortem examination revealed he had been stabbed once in his neck and three times in his chest - puncturing his heart.

Mr
Smith QC told jurors two gloves with Mr Peiris’ blood on were found in
Khan’s home - while Khan’s palm print was also found on the roof of
Thavisha’s car.

'Khan and Ahmed had planned to commit offences of robbery and about
an hour or so before the attack, they had jointly committed an offence
of robbery involving two young people at Castle Market, in Sheffield.

'During this offence Ahmed had produced a knife and injured one of the two people in question.

'After
the robbery the defendants returned to the home of Khan, where they
were both living, but they went out again and decided to rob Thavisha
while he was trying to deliver a pizza.'

The court heard that the
vicitm had worked until 7am on the morning of his death, and had
returned to start another shift later that evening.

Mr Smith said that at 8.40pm, Mr Peiris asked his manager at Domino’s Pizza if he could go home because he was tired.

But
his manager asked if he would take one more order, which was to the
Southey Green part of Sheffield as well as one other order. He left the
pizza outlet at 9.50pm, the court heard.

Mr Smith said that, while
nobody actually witnessed the attack, an eyewitness saw two men in
hoods stood around his car, looking in the driver’s window shortly
before the attack.

Other eyewitnesses saw two men running away from the murder scene in the direction of Khan’s flat, the court heard.

One resident described the pair running at a 'hell of a pace', the jury heard.

'The
prosecution contend that these were the defendants,' said Mr Smith. Mr
Peiris' dead body was eventually discovered by a colleague.

'He opened the passenger door and touched Thavisha’s arm, but he didn’t move,' said Mr Smith.

'At
that point he noticed there was blood on Thavisha’s shirt and blood in
the car.' Paramedics were called but Thavisha died at hospital, the
court heard.

Speaking about the pathologists’ findings, Mr Smith
said: 'There was a stab wound in the left side of the neck which had
passed through Thavisha’s spine.

'In the central area of the chest, there was another wound which had penetrated the heart.'

The court also heard that there were stab wounds to his ribs, as well as superficial stab wounds to his face and hands.

Following
the killing both defendants went to the home of Ahmed’s father, and
alluded to family members that something serious had happened - but did
not reveal what it was, the court heard.

Three days later, Ahmed
was discovered by police in a storage area in his girlfriend’s house and
Khan discovered hiding in the loft of his parents’ house.

Ahmed has already admitted two counts of robbery, which Khan also admits.

The trial continues.

‘Frozen,’ Pharrell’s ‘Happy’ Top Mid-Year Charts As Album Sales, Digital Downloads Decrease « Radio.com

Ladies and gentlemen, the numbers are in. Topping the charts in this mid-year music report is (surprise, surprise) Pharrell Williams’ “Happy”, which has reached half the world’s population in merely six months with 571,000 plays on terrestrial radio.

Billboard and Nielsen have released their joint mid-year report, which tabulates radio, streaming and sales numbers for the year so far — from individual songs to albums of all formats.

Following in close second behind Pharrell’s “Happy” with 550,000 plays is John Legend’s
“All of Me”, reaching 3.2 billion people compared to Williams’ 3.3
billion reach. Three other hit songs in “Dark Horse,” “Team” and
“Counting Stars” — all songs that, like “Happy” and “All of Me,” came
out in 2013 — rounded out the top five.

Meanwhile, as expected, the top album of 2014 is still the soundtrack to Frozen,
which has been spurned on by monstrous ticket and DVD sales and a hit
single in “Let It Go.” The album has moved 2.7 million units this year.

The rest of the report was full of some expected data (CD sale death)
and some not-so expected data, like the 40.2 percent increase in vinyl
sales.

The spike in physical music media probably has a lot to do with the fact that Jack White’s album Lazaretto sold nearly 40,000 vinyl copies on the first week of its release, shattering the previous record set by Pearl Jam in 1994.

According to the report, the music industry’s sales are seeing a bit
of a downturn, with overall album sales, including physical and digital
media, decreasing by 14.9 percent, with digital album sales down 11.6
percent.

However, streaming music is all the rage with 70.3 billion streams of
audio and video, audio making up 50.1 percent of that figure. This may
have caused the 13 percent drop in digital downloads, supposedly the
forte of Apple, who recently acquired Beats for $500 million.

Overall, the report shows that music consumers would rather stream
music than buy the digital copy and continue to revert to vinyl.

Now BA bans passengers from US flights if mobile isn't charged: Airline announces tough new security measures

The new British Airways security measures come amid concerns terror groups are planning an attack on a commercial airliner

British Airways announced tough new security measures last night
which will see passengers barred from US-bound flights if their
electronic devices are not charged up.

In preventing passengers from flying, the airline is going one step further than the guidelines issued on Sunday.

These
stated that gadgets will be confiscated before boarding if their owner
fails to switch them on and prove they are not packed with explosives.

The
US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has said it will not
allow mobile phones – especially the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy – on to
planes bound for the US from some international airports if the devices
are not charged.

But British Airways’ rules could see travellers
with uncharged electronic devices – some of which are notorious for
having short battery lives – not only lose their gadgets but also their
seats on the flight.

The new British Airways security measures come amid concerns terror groups are planning an attack on a commercial airlinerAnd unwitting passengers whose batteries have
run out during a stop-over, before taking a connecting flight to the
US, face being stranded, unable to continue their journey.

A
spokesman from British Airways confirmed its new policy, telling the
Daily Mail: ‘If [customers] are unable to power up their electronic
device they will not be allowed to fly.

If it does not power up then it cannot be placed in hand or hold
luggage. We advise our customers to please do all they can to ensure
that any electronic device they have is fully powered before you arrive
at the airport.

‘For people transferring we advise that they use
electronic devices sparingly if they are going to fly on a long journey
before getting to London and then transferring on to a US destination.’

The
airline also admitted that there will be limited charging facilities at
check-in, so there is no chance of any last-minute powering up.

The
heightened security comes amid reports two terror networks are working
together on a bomb that could evade existing detection measures.

US
officials are concerned that a mobile phone, tablet, laptop or other
electronic device could be used as a bomb by Yemen-based Al Qaeda in the
Arabian Peninsula and the Islamist Nusra Front, Al Qaeda’s affiliate in
Syria.

The new British Airways measures barring passengers whose electronic items cannot be powered on exceeds guidelines which state the item should simply be confiscated
The new British Airways measures barring passengers whose electronic
items cannot be powered on exceeds guidelines which state the item
should simply be confiscated

In 2009 a Yemen-linked bomb maker, Ibrahim al-Asiri, built an
underwear bomb used in a failed attempt to bring down a plane bound for
Detroit.

The TSA did not disclose which airports would be
conducting the additional screening, but it was reported last week that
passengers at British airports travelling to the US are facing extra
checks on their phones.

US officials singled out particular
smartphones, including the Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy, for security
screening on direct flights bound for the States from Europe, the
Middle East and Africa.

The BA spokesman added: ‘Safety and
security is our top priority at all times and we continue to work
closely with airports and governments around the world.‘

We are
complying with the US regulations and would advise customers to arrive
in good time for their flights both at check-in and also at the boarding
gate ... our flights continue to operate as normal.’

'Bubbling' Is the New Teen Trend That Will Make You Gag

'Bubbling' Is the New Teen Trend That Will Make You Gag
ExpandIt
was only a matter of time before the teens of today (boys of the
nadsat), bored with their petty theft and criminal mischief, got tired
of silly games like butt chugging and Neknomination and began searching
in earnest for something to entertain themselves with that would be both
disgusting and completely pointless. And so, Bubbling was born to
satisfy that need. And teens saw that it was good! And the summer of
2014 became the summer that they would start pissing into their own
mouths and posting the pictures online. Because who cares about future
employment? Certainly not the boys who are shooting their urine into
their own mouths, smelling and tasting the asparagus they had for dinner.

Bubbling,
which is literally just peeing into your own mouth (no, that's really
it) was originally a fake trend started by Australian skaters that has
now become very real. It began with a picture of a young man at a rock
concert; a young man (I assume) so overtaken with the music he was
listening to that he had no choice but to whip out his garden hose and
start peeing into his own mouth as a self-soothing strategy for all the
feelings he was experiencing. I understand this. Not the peeing into
one's own mouth thing (because I am often dehydrated :/) but being so
overcome with emotion that you have to do something crazy in the moment.
For me, it was when the Gilmore Girls ended. Except instead of
peeing into my own mouth I clutched a decorative throw pillow and cried
about the fact that I would never again visit Stars Hollow for the
first time. The people who saw the first instance of bubbling, by the
way, were maybe not as enthused as the young man in question.

"this dude straight up pissed into his own mouth in the middle of the mosh pit".

"It
went everywhere," the witness, Adon1kam, continued. "All down his shirt
and in his hair, he seriously went for for like a solid minute. It was
feral. And yes he just went on like nothing happened afterwards, it was
one of the funniest/strangest/most disgusting and confusing things I've
ever seen in my life."
Disgusting and confusing
appear to be good ways to describe the trend, which some sources are
reporting as completely fake. In fact, the first known mention of the
bubbling phenomenon was mentioned in Vice by Australian skater Troy
West, who says that the practice is so common in Australia that it's
passed on from generation to generation like a precious heirloom. West
told Vice that his father taught him how to bubble (I have the insane urge to scream "teach me how to bubble,
teach me teach me how to bubble" to my empty living room as I write
this) and if this logic holds, West may one day teach his own son the
art of bubbling. My own father tried to teach me how to play soccer, but
gave up when he realized that my body type was meant for video games,
not sports played on grassy fields. Perhaps bubbling could have made our
relationship stronger, less strained.

Even if West is just
courting controversy with his statements, bubbling has gotten one
high-profile athlete in trouble. Todd Carney, a Rugby league player, was
fired after photos of him pissing into his own mouth surfaced on the
internet. While Carney claims he was just "mucking around" with "his
boys" and not promoting the practice of bubbling, Regardless, his firing
has inspired teen boys everywhere (who follow Rugby) to start pissing
in their own mouths and posting the photos to internet groups with names
such as Piss In Your Mouth For Todd Carney, which only features two photos, but is apparently only one of the groups that Facebook has been yanking down as soon as they come up.

The
fact that teen boys are doing something stupid in support of an athlete
is understandable, but if bubbling exists outside of this futile
Facebook protest, it raises the question of what's the point? If
fathers really are passing the secret knowledge of turning yourself
into a gurgling water fountain down to their sons, is there any point to
it other than being gross and asserting some kind of feral masculinity?
Bear Grylls drank urine and ate fecal matter to survive, but what's the
point if there's nothing at stake. And why urine specifically? Why
aren't men, as a colleague pointed out, eating their own fecal matter or
sucking on used tampons? These things are just as shocking and messy as
urine. (or maybe less messy, as the witness account above points out,
as urine will get everywhere: on you, your friends, and innocent
bystanders.)

The point of teen fads (POGS4LYFE) is that they're
supposed to be fun, get you high (in some way or another) for at least a
second and make the olds feel just a little nostalgic for the fleeting
gem that was their youth. This fad accomplishes none of those things and
fails as a trend, fake or otherwise. Unless, and I am being cautiously
optimistic here, this act helps those teens who may be into water sports
discover a part of their sexuality that they've been repressing. In
that case, more power to you! Godspeed!
