Rihanna's "Talk That Talk" returned to the top of the U.K. album chart on Sunday (Aug. 12), as "Heatwave" by British rapper Wiley featuring Ms D started a second week at No. 1 on the singles survey.
Though "Talk That Talk" is now nearing one million U.K. sales, according to the Official Charts Company, its sales this week of 9,578 copies breaks the lowest weekly sale for a number one album.
The previous record, as the U.K.'s Music Week noted this morning, was set just 11 weeks ago by Emeli Sande's whose "Our Version of Events sold only 13,430 copies when it too returned to the pole position. Though Great Britain might have had its mind and pocketbook on other things -- such as the rather spectacular London Olympics -- the dwindling numbers for No. 1 UK albums points to a larger trend of falling sales. The last two quarters have seen albums sales drop by 15% and 13% in the first and second quarters, respectively.
Plan B's "Ill Manors" film soundtrack held at No. 2 as Maroon 5's "Overexposed" moved back 4-3, trading places with Emeli Sandé's former No. 1 album "Our Version of Events."
Paloma Faith climbed 16-5 with "Fall To Grace," but last week's arrival at No. 1, Conor Maynard's first album "Contrast," dropped to No. 6. Moving back into the top ten were Train's "California 37," from No. 11 to a new peak of No. 7, and Keane's "Strangeland," 18-10. On the compilation chart, "Now! That's What I Call Music 82" started a third week at No. 1.
The Wiley single remained at the summit as "We'll Be Coming Back" by Calvin Harris featuring Example also held at No. 2. British quartet Lawson followed their No. 4 hit "When She Was Mine" with a No. 3 start for "Taking Over Me." Bristol-based DJ-producer Redlight opened at No. 5 with "Lost In Your Love."
