After The Butter Peanut FDA Pulls a Skippy On E. Coli-contaminated Hazelnuts

First they recall our Skippy peanut butter and now they take away our hazelnuts? After seven cases of E. coli were reported in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin a California-based company (DeFranco & Sons) has voluntarily recalled a number of its in-shell hazelnut and mixed-nut products. So far no deaths have been connected to the contaminated nuts, but three people have been hospitalized according to the CDC.
The nuts in question have been distributed across the nation and Canada under the Sunripe and George Packing brands (as well as in unbranded "Season's Greetings" giftpacks). The FDA became aware of the problem with the nuts, which were distributed in November and December, in February and is working to determine the source of the contamination.
