'Apollo 18' Movie Raises Questions About Secret Missions to the Moon: "Who was the crew of Apollo 18?
The identities of NASA astronauts in the early 1970s were well known. If, as one suspects, the movie will show the guys not exactly making it back or making it back in a condition that requires their permanent residence in an isolation facility at Area 51, then one has to assume the crew was not part of the NASA program and was part of a secret, military program. There was actually a military manned space program in the early 1960s, but it was closed down during the Johnson administration and most of the military astronauts transitioned over to NASA."
